Carville Goes to Bat for Terry McAuliffe in Virginia Governor's Race

Add James Carville to the growing list of friends Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe is calling on as he battles two others leading into next week's primary. Carville, one of the nation's premier campaign strategists, has sent an E-mail to McAuliffe's supporters calling on Democrats to help the former Democratic Party boss win the primary to face lone GOP candidate Bob McDonnell.

Here's how the Ragin' Cajun describes the Republican: "Now I'm sure Bob McDonnell's a bright guy, and I don't doubt he's qualified to do plenty of things. If you're an out-of-stater trolling for some of Virginia's tax dollars, Bob McDonnell's your man. If you like smoke-filled restaurants, he's your go-to-guy. And if you thought Jim Gilmore did a good job managing our finances—trust me, Bob McDonnell knows how to party like it's 1999."

Carville on McAuliffe: "When it comes to the economy, no lawyer who's spent the better part of the last two decades opposing workers' relief in Richmond can compete with a guy who's created thousands of jobs and spent his entire career turning around struggling businesses. And that guy is Terry McAuliffe."

The Virginia gubernatorial primary is in just eight days, and we need the strongest possible nominee: Terry McAuliffe.

Republicans are desperate to end their losing streak, and they're bettin' the farm on the Old Dominion. The Republican Governor's Association has already kicked in nearly $2 million to Bob McDonnell's campaign. Sean Hannity and Mitt Romney came to Virginia to campaign for him just this past weekend. RNC Chairman Michael Steele even posted a video on McDonnell's website bragging that, "A national Republican resurgence can start in Richmond this November."

I know a thing or two about electing Democrats in Southern states, and let me tell you: with all eyes focused on Virginia, we can't take any chances. We need Terry McAuliffe as our nominee.

But we only have eight days left to fully fund the Get-Out-the-Vote operation and raise the resources to keep Terry's positive message on the air. So don't dally. The attacks are flying, and Terry needs our support right this minute.

Now I'm sure Bob McDonnell's a bright guy, and I don't doubt he's qualified to do plenty of things. If you're an out-of-stater trolling for some of Virginia's tax dollars, Bob McDonnell's your man. If you like smoke-filled restaurants, he's your go-to-guy. And if you thought Jim Gilmore did a good job managing our finances—trust me, Bob McDonnell knows how to party like it's 1999.

But when it comes to the economy, no lawyer who's spent the better part of the last two decades opposing workers' relief in Richmond can compete with a guy who's created thousands of jobs and spent his entire career turning around struggling businesses. And that guy is Terry McAuliffe.

Don't just take my word for it. VCU Professor Bob Holsworth wrote that Terry "was first to the jobs theme that almost every other candidate has adopted" and "has far better candidate skills than the other Democrats in the race."

We need to help Terry win this primary fight and get his message out to every part of Virginia—through TV, radio, mail, and the biggest, baddest Get-Out-the-Vote operation a Virginia governor's race has ever seen.

This race is going to come down to the wire, and there's barely any time left to reach those undecided voters. So help Terry out right away.
