As people we should set a better example for our youth period. The energy we put in negativity is mind boggling sometimes,I bet we could all be"First Lady." So listen up people, we the people should remember the sick, shut in, homeless, and forgotten, and instead of losing it over the first Lady shiny shoes, let's take a better look at ourselves and perhapes try to shine in a more positive light. And volunteer, help the sick, needy or just plain ole" for goodness sake live and let live. The shoes are not strange, it's just fashion,so please leave the First Lady alone while she just helps to feed the hungry.PEACE

People, people, people. I have read alot of blogs and comments about the first family and this one gets to me. If Michelle wore jeans and t-shirt, you guys would say something. If she shopped at Walmart, Sears, Target, or JC Penneys it would be okay. Recession or not she is suppose to look depart from the average women. She shopped at high end boutiques before she became the first lady. I think you fail to know this. She can afford whatever she wants. It saddens some of you that this smart, intelligent, classy lady has got it all. No other first lady has ever had the spotlight on them, you would think Michelle is the President. My goodness, some of you are quick to say it isn't about race, reading some of the comments, I beg to differ. She looks good all the time, JCrew or Wu. Take it or leave it. I have to deal with this daily on my job, about the clothes I wear. I think it's more about being JEALOUS. If you don't have the money for high price items......Whose to blame Michelle? Michelle keep up the good work. I love it.

So what, She shows up in a pair of expensive sneekers to help out at the FOOD BANK. Did The former frist lady barbara bush ever go to a food bank and give any of her time to help the people that are less needy. Does any one in D.C. other than Michelle go to the Foods Banks!

Jo, C Mccain is somewhere cringing as she sis not get that phoyo op to wear her Lavin snexa first... Give me a break? Every outfit MCCain wore was at the high end....

WASP. the name explins it all..That explains why you do not know what hip urban style is NOT. She wears J Crew.. Urban???. Let me guess ... Izod and plaid , tennis whites (Sheet),, penny loafers..knit ST JOHN Suit...Would that be your style? Talbots... Your attitude make me uncomfortable....

Emily WTF? With your attitude it is frighting to think you may have taught anyone anything positive. You do not "speak" For "ME" in "we the people". What does "affirmative action" have to do with this topic? Your bitternes is showing."NEWS "FLASH" they pay their own way. The Pres. receives a salary and they buy their clothes, toiltries, now dog food.u can now shop in many places n find designer and higher price items oulets and overstock stores for a fraction of the price...MO is savvy.. does a lot of online shopping , there are great finds way below retail...Its obvious most have not been in Payless in a while...payless carries designer sometimes you do better at a major dept store and catch a great sale...What days do "you" volunteer at a food bank?? To the fashion critics what do you wear when you volunteer? Professionl The Woman Is A Harvard Trained Lawyer she does not need to learn anything. All anyone can do is speculate. Her clothes are timeless not trendy and will still be in style long after the family is not under a microscope. Letter carrier food drive this week.....You do not have to wear anything special, can you handle that? Her wardrobe chice may have had something to do with whatever her scheduled entailed that day...did not know there was a particular color or outfit required to volunteer...See how dumb that sounds? Get a Life...Good luck with that

I'm quite happy to see the balance in the First Lady's wardrobe, some moderately prices items, some very expensive, we all do it ladies, we buy some sale items, and sometimes we just feel like splurging on something really expensive. Just because she is the First Lady, doesn't mean that she's lost "the girl" in her. "You Go Michelle!" And for the racists, please can we leave race out of this topic! The race card has no place is some discussions! What's with the black kids and the expensive sneakers! And how did we move from the First Lady's sneakers to her behind! What is wrong with you people? There are kids in the world who woke up this morning without breakfast before going to school! There are kids who go to bed without dinner! There are kids in the world who have never had a toy to play with! There are kids who don't know what it is to play in a park! Can we invest our time in discussions that are more worthy than the price of the First Lady's shoes! Someone called for Cindy Mc Cain, are you in any way suggesting that she has nothing in her closet that cost's $500 or more? Or would it be ok if she were the one wearing those sneakers. I do understand the people who make the argument that wearing those shoes in a setting as she did may not have been the wisest choice, but in no way should anyone imply that she is not entitled to own shoes that cost $500, after all her husband is the President of THE GREATEST NATION IN THE WORLD!!! My husband isn't the President of anything and he'd buy me those sneakers in a minute if he could afford it, and if I could afford it you better believe it would be in my closet too! Likewise if I saw a really nice pair of shoes at Payless shoe store that I liked I would buy those too! Like Pink said, "So What!"

What is with the hypocrisy in this country! Is is because she's black? Why is she not entitled to wear whatever she pleases? Before she became the First Lady she earned money! Did she use tax payers money to purchase those sneakers? Did she use money donated to the underprivileged to buy them? No she didn't! Why is it that we take such pleasure in glamorizing trivialities? She is the FIRST LADY! HELLO! SHE IS ENTITLED TO AN EXPENSIVE THING OR TWO! She can afford it, can't she? As far as I know she's always been so modest in her choice of clothing! For once she's been spotted with a pair of sneakers that cost more than we can afford and we go crazy! And for the person who gave two words to Michelle "Pay-Less", think again, she's the FIRST LADY, pay-less is for you and I who can't afford better! And for the news media who report this with such vigor, some of the hypocrite anchors have hand bags and sunglasses the cost the same and more, what's the difference, it's ok because you're white? How many ordinary women I know, who are not as rich as Michelle Obama and are not First Lady's, who wear $500 shoes, bags, clothes and even sunglasses!!! Come on people, get real! I expect to see any FIRST LADY, wearing the best and nothing less! And for the racists who were quick to compare this to young black kids and their love for expensive sneakers, how about the young white kids who are given credit cards at young ages, and spend it carelessly on nothing important, why don't their parents share some of that money with the less fortunate, and for those who are given large sums of money at very young ages and spend it on all sorts of drugs, don't you think their parents could be doing something more worthwhile with that money, and for those who are given expensive cars as young teenagers, couldn't their parents be considered wasteful and irresponsible just the same? Need I go any further to compare the young black kids and the white and the amount of money that goes to waste? People let's get real and give some attention to the situation in Dafur and the rest of the world where suffering goes on daily, and give a little less attention to things such as the FIRST LADY and her expensive shoes, which in all honesty she is allowed to wear because SHE CAN AFFORD! I could say a lot more on the matter.

I agree that President Obama and the First Lady should be able to buy whatever they can afford. However, these shoes demonstrate the Obama's Elitist attitudes. During his Presidency, President Obama has condemned auto executives for flying in private jets, the amount of Executive pay and the amount of professional athletes salries. Then Mrs. Obama shows up at a food bank wearing $540 sneakers. They are hypocrites, and don't have a clue about average people.

I'm waiting for the media outrage, like we had with John McCain's houses and the cost of Sarah Palin's wardrobe. Guess I'll just have to keep waiting....lol.

Let them chew on their tennies! Emelda Marcos must be turning over in her grave with envy; she never had such a pair in her collection. Makes you wonder how many pairs Michelle has stashed in her closets at the White House. For the first time in this presidency I'm proud of the Obowmas, especially Michelle. Just think of if she had worn a typical pair of Keds for about $30 and donated the remaining $500 to feed the poor. How many poor could have been fed just on that pair of tennies. Does anyone else smell the stench of hypocrisy here?

Septimus Pretorius of CO 7:04AM May 02, 2009

Michelle and Oprah always look ugly no matter how many pieces of gold or expensive dresses they wear.

Just state the facts.

Beautiful Black women like Tyra Bank can wear a cheap dress still she always gorgeous. Even Queen Latifa still has a pretty face.

That is the fact
