I think it is a mistake to prevent storage of nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain. All nuclear waste/byproducts are now stored onsite where it is created. How secure are we with unprocessed nuclear waste/byproducts stored at over 100 locations across the US? If the French can generate 80% of their electricity from nuclear power, reprocess the nuclear waste/byproducts, and store the materials, why can’t the US?

If Senator Harry Reid (aka Pinky) refers to the NATIONAL REPOSITORY AT YUCCA MOUNTAIN (Yucca Mountain Project) as a “dump” then he must refer to the Senate and Congress (House of Representatives) as a house of prostitution, since they do sell their votes for favors in return. Reid is the head of that body.
As for the “sky is falling” danger in transporting SOLIDIFIED spent nuclear fuel and material, is Harry Reid also going to also close McCarran International airport, Nellis Airforce base, stop tankers from moving chemicals such as chlorine over our roads/ rail, prevent everyone from throwing away alkaline batteries or even flushing anything down the drain? Is Reid is concerned about dangers in Nevada after Clark and Nye counties turn into subtropical rain forest, enter into an ice age and have volcanic eruptions. Is Reid planning what political party will be in control 10,000 years from now?
This is not a pie in the sky rail line to Los Angeles, study of some designer mice in California or a resort real estate deal Harry.

I can't put all the blame on Reid (although I would love to). The nuclear industry failed to sell Yucca Mountain for exactly what it is - a long-term storage solution. Selling a storage facility allows the supporters to state that, if something better comes along, we can move the waste and apply the new solution. Unfortunately, when Reid and others call it a "dump" (which he did 3 times in his letter) and no one barks back, what do you expect is going to happen? This is a dark day for America and, without coal, NG, and nuclear power, plan for many dark nights ahead.

So, does this mean that DOE waste won't have a home, either? Remember, they get first whack at any storage space. Hospital, industrial, and nuclear power plant waste come last.

How does a Senate majority leader rationalize the State he represents getting the least amount of money for education and transportation from the stimulus package he presumably brokered. The guy is a brick
Nevada Vote against Harry Reidof NV12:18AM February 27, 2009
Harry Reid may be boasting about stopping the repository; but, he has cost Nevada funding that could improve roads between Reno and Las Vegas, establish medical research facilities, and improve the higher education system in Nevada. He says that he got 100 million in stimulus money for Nevada while this year he cost the state 200 million in Yucca Mountain Project funds. As I see it he is 100 million in the hole.

Wonderful! But what about all this extreme toxic waste?
There are two choices- reprocessing which is much more dangerous and increases the threat of
nuclear profileration-there goes homeland security or some other state can take it as they
see themselves not as worthy as Nevada. Or nuclear waste can be dumped in the Alberta Tar
Sands; alternatively they can be dumped in Ontario, Canada which wants to go Nuclear big
time with the McGuinty government. But maybe we're all Nevadans-none of us deserve this
nuclear toxic waste. We must and we can do better- 100% Renewable and public power-or bust.

Who will build nuclear power plants now? I think we are headed for a difficult future. No Coal + No Nuclear = No Economy.

I'm glad that all that gambling, neon lighting and dope dealing aren't detrimental to Nevadans' moral and physical welfare. Where else could America's nuclear waste be stored other than a worthless hunk of rock in a desolate state like Nevada. Washington,D.C., might be a worthy substitute.
