LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say a protest over George Zimmerman's acquittal has led to the arrests of 17 people in a small Southern California city.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department says eight of the 17 people arrested Wednesday night in Victorville were juveniles. The Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/18phL2O ) reports that most of the arrests in the city about 85 miles northeast of Los Angeles were made on charges of unlawful assembly.

Authorities told the paper that most of the 80 people who took part in the demonstration were peaceful.

Earlier this week, Los Angeles and Oakland were flashpoints for violent reactions following Saturday's acquittal of Zimmerman in the death of Trayvon Martin in Florida.

In Los Angeles on Wednesday, additional police patrols were added in one area as officers braced for possible unrest. No arrests have been reported.
