ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. (AP) — One of the most beautiful and surprising views from New York City is also a battleground over development.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art and conservation groups object to the design of a proposed eight-story headquarters for LG Electronics USA in Englewood Cliffs, N.J. The site is atop the sheer 330-foot cliffs called the Palisades.
Part of the planned building will pierce the Palisades tree line. The area has been protected for more than 100 years.
LG says it will work with concerned groups to alter the design, but only to a certain point.
Spokesman John Taylor says a total overhaul would set back construction, and LG is committed to going forward.
Court-supervised mediation broke down this month.
