LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles County prosecutors have filed charges against two men suspected of kicking the head of another motorist in a videotaped road rage incident on a freeway.

The district attorney's office said Monday that 21-year-old David Mendez and 27-year-old Edras A. Ramirez are each charged with assault with a deadly weapon — their feet — and assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury.

Prosecutors say the assault on driver Jerry Patterson occurred June 12 after they stopped their cars on Interstate 5.

A video recorded by another motorist showed the men fighting and Patterson being thrown to the pavement and then kicked in the head.

Mendez and Ramirez surrendered to authorities on June 20 after the video went viral on the Internet. Arraignment is set for July 13.
