PITTSBURGH (AP) — The armored car guard wanted on charges he stole more than $2 million after killing his partner has waived his right to a removal hearing in Florida and will be transported back to Pittsburgh to face charges.
Twenty-two-year-old Kenneth Konias Jr. appeared briefly in federal court in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday morning, hours after he was arrested in Pompano Beach.
Konias allegedly killed fellow guard Michael Haines inside their Garda Cash Logistics truck on Feb. 28 and disappeared with more than $2 million.
Haines' body was found in the back of the truck by co-workers who found it parked under a Pittsburgh bridge.
About $275,000 was recovered following the theft but it wasn't immediately clear if authorities had located more of the missing cash.
