CINCINNATI (AP) — Authorities say one person has died in storms in southwest Ohio, where National Weather Service reports say at least five possible tornados touched down.

A county communications director, Kathy Lehr, said Friday the victim was a man in his 50s from the Bethel area, about 35 miles southeast of Cincinnati. She said five to eight people have been injured. She did not know how severe the injuries were.

The National Weather Service said five possible tornados were spotted, including one near Bethel, as a storms tore across several Ohio counties as part of a system stretching from the Gulf Coast to the Great Lakes.

Lehr said the village of Moscow was especially hard hit. Some homes were destroyed and roads closed. County commissioners called a state of emergency.
