How can you vote on anything, sign anything, without reading what you have been TOLD to sign or vote on?

HELLO........this is being rammed down the throats of everyone.

This is not Nazi Germany, and hopefully our Senators and Congress can READ!

As a nation we got ourselves into this mess by not wisely managing our finances. The government, no matter how lavishly it spends, can not right the wrongs of our financial institutions by promoting more bad habits. The average American saves less then 3 percent of their income, the federal government is proposing to spend more money on one bill than the entire cost of the Iraq war to date, showing its complete lack of concern for fiscal responsibility. If I owe you money and the fed gives you money, how does that help me pay you back? If the administration were truly concerned with stimulating the economy and not growing the role of government in my daily dealings they would consult financial successes instead of aging congressmen and women who know nothing about the real world and how our wallets work. Ask the ceo's of Mcdonalds, Walmart, or even Donald Trump what they think about this huge barrel of pork that our elected employees in government are trying to railroad through the senate. Simply doing nothing IS better than recklessly spending our grandchildrens chance for financial prosperity. Where do these people think this money will come from? More debt from China perhaps? or maybe we can just print more money until a gallon of milk costs us a wheelbarrow full of cash. Let us not forget also that the TVA and public works of FDR's aministration did not get us out of the great depression, WWII did. How it can be concieved as wise to dump loads of borrowed cash into a broken economy is lost on me. (and a lot of far more educated economic analysts) The answer to this "crisis" is to let the market take care of itself. Survival of the fittest. The weak poorly managed companies, i.e. fanny and freddy and old goldman sachs, can fall. Smaller more well managed companies can assume those "toxic assetts" and make loans to responsible people who can, one house at a time, fix this mess. The attack media has portrayed the debt collector as the omnipotent bad guy, what would be expected if bills are not payed? When it is all said and done, what would your grandpa do? the men and women of our greatest generation had it figured out, a trillion borrowed dollars to prop up a broken system is unforgiveable. A wise plan to address a serious cultural spending problem is probably way beyond a governments capacity, even still now is the time to consider the important phrase "a penny saved is a penny earned."

I suppose the people's love affair with Obama is quickly running out, and the Senate is aware of it. We may be looking at a whole newly revamped bill come time for the Senate vote...

Why the heck would Republicans try to argue for tax cuts once again? Hasen't the last thirty years finally proven them wrong?? Supply side is pure BS!!!! Enough already. Go to another country (Like Iceland, oh wait too late!) and try your supply side con over there. We aint buyin it no more!

Those whom the Gods would destroy, they first make mad. Euripides?

It seems that this might apply to the current Republican position on the stimulus package. They don't seem to realise that our (and the world) economy is in a death spiral rivaling that of the Great Depression. Folks, in our situation it is necessary that we "Do something, even if it's wrong". Any old infantrymen out there? What do you when you're pinned down, taking enemy fire, and about to die if you stay put? You do something, even if it's wrong.

Check out the total spending bill per the Democrats press release on 01-15-09, and the total for this bill comes to ONE Trillion, 5 Billion Dollars, not the 800 Billion claimed. So the 3 million Jobs saved or created have a price of $ 335,000 EACH. Wonder if I can get one of those jobs? I could use the money right now. As for the Bi-Partisian opposition, I hope the Republicans and Democrats can continue their unified non-support for this bill. As stated in another reader comment, let the uber-libs take full credit, and blame, for this pork laden socialist atrocity.

The Bush Republicans had it their way for so long, It’s understandable that it may take time for them to dry-out from the “I can only win if everybody else loses“ koolaid. But I think they feel pretty bad about the mess they got us into by failing to "help" Bush with some over sight, that he could have used. So now they posture and try to look competent in an attempt to save face.

Hopefully they have a great time at the Superbowl party and come away ready to make the conservative case for the common good with a “the government is us” perspective. It will be great when Republicans get over it, and do their part for America.

There is no such thing as "cooperation" in our system of democracy, so you can fortet about it. If the minority party "cooperates" (instead of raising Cane or just plain ol' bellyaching) then the public will naturally ask, "What's the purpose of a second party?" The party out-of-power will never help the party in-power succeed, because the electorate will just continue to support the party in-power and the party out-of-power will never get a chance at all the spoils.

So let's just quit being "pals" and let the party in-power drive the show, like Bush did during his terms. The shame of it is that the out-of-power party knows they only need 40% to close down any initiatives the party in-power wants to put in place, no matter how important or needful or sensible.

So much for Democracy.

The size of a 900 billion dollar stimulus bill is unheard-of. It's mostly government spending. It's a fiscal noose around the neck of all Americans and certainly, if they do not know it, of a lot of Democrats. Democrats are the ones calling for fiscal help. This bill won't give it to them.

I suggest the powers that be re-think this bill.

Also:

The small, local banks that are not in trouble, but would have money coming to them under this bill, are refusing the money. They don't want to be owned or bossed around by the federal government.

Why are we Americans being encouraged to commit suicide (abortion), literally and fiscally( becoming beholden and owned by the Federal Government)?

Just who was elected to live in the White House?
