I can not for the life of me understand why our goverment is so intent on taking down the worlds econmy by stuffing so much garbage into 1 bag and expect everybody to agree. This is not a smart. I would never claim to know the best thing to do but, if I focus on just one thing at a time I bet I could understand what was on the table.

Everyone knows when you are overwelmed with a serious problems that you handle them one step at a time. Everyone but our goverment. What is up with that? If you stuff your mouth so full of food you can not chew it then you choke.

That is exactly what is happening while the country is going down tubes. Why can't we work on the foreclosers send out the money then the auto industries and send out the money the tax reform the small business and so on. Are they afraid that everyone is going to be able to understand what they are voting on? Or is this the point of stuffing the bill so you have to take the bad with the good if there is any good in there? Who knows anymore?

I want a goverment that looks out for the future of my country, my quality of life, and the future of humanity. I am very dissapointed in American politics. They are looking more and more like the fake wrestling set up purely for entertainment purposes merely to sale tickets for the show.

I don't know where you are getting you timeline, but the Democrats have only been in control of the "purse-strings," meaning the House (becasue consitutionally the Sentate can not propose appropriations) for 2 years, since 2006. And most of that time Bush was busy vetoing their legislation. Give theeir ideas a chance before jumping all over them.

On a side note, calling the opposition party "Dummycrats" will not foster a national discourse on "true leadership," and true leaders at all time avoid ad hominim attacks, as they do nothing to progress the contry.

Not Howard's biggest fan of IL 11:48AM January 30, 2009

Bush has been the one to catch blame for all the financial troubles and the Dummycrats have had the purse strings under their control for 8 years now. Bush did try to get congress to put checks in place, and the Dunnycratic leadership wanted no part of it. So now the President has got his hands full, with the worst economic times that I can remember, and the biggest blame lies with his own party. There is blame to go around for both parties, and denial of this is ludicrous. Until we, the people of this great nation can vote for true leaders, instead of the likes of most of the congressmen that we currently have, there will always be a lack of responsibility for the position that they hold. The true leaders that we should be able to vote for do not chose to run for the office, so as not to tarnish their reputation by association. If my old memory serves me right, Joe Biden was as dirty as anyone when we had the financial crisis back some 15 or 20 years ago, and he weaseled out of that one. Nancy Pelosi has never delivered on the promises made to the people 8 years ago, how lest we forget that. If the Dummycrats had delivered half of their promises made then, we may very well have had a new President four years ago, and possibly, quite probably, we would not be in this mess. To back up my displeasure with the congress, one only needs to do a little reading to see the vast amounts of waste that are going to do absolutely nothing to get our economy going. Must have been the politicians sidekicks, known as lobbiests, getting their way with the bill. There is so much bulls..t in it, it reeks. But then, what do you get from a garbage pit, a stinky mess.

HOW VERY SAD, YOU & YOUR FELLOW DEMOCRATS JUST VOTED THIS NATION DOWN THE TUBES!! DID ANYONE OF YOU THINK OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THAT HAVE LOST THEIR JOBS & ARE LOSING THEIR HOMES? YOUR WASTE OF MONEY DOES NOT HELP THEM AT ALL! YOU CAN POUR MONEY INTO THE BANKS & OTHER FINANCIAL COMPANIES AND NOT DO A THING FOR THEM. THESE PLACES DO NOT LEND MONEY TO PEOPLE WITH NO JOB. THEY DO NOT LEND MONEY TO PEOPLE IN FORECLOSURE & THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WILL DO NO DIFFERENT! YOU ALL JUST PAID FOR THEM TO BE HOMELESS, THEIR CHILDREN TO BE UNEDUCATED & THEIR SELF RESPECT GONE. A TAX CUT HELPS THOSE LUCKY ENOUGH TO STILL HAVE A JOB, IT DOES NOTHING FOR THOSE THAT DO NOT. You may be thinking that this is about me, you are wrong, we lost our home(that we built, blood, sweat & tears) after 911. You see I know these people are in for a VERY LONG ROAD. My Husband still has a job but my small business is in the tank(MY PARTNER IS 84 YEARS OLD , TRYING TO MAKE ENDS MEET) as people can not afford to spend any money except on food(something you all have over looked) How very sad that you & your fellow democrats voted party line & NOT FOR THE PEOPLE THAT SENT YOU THERE!! CHANGE? THE ONLY CHANGE I SEE IS THAT NOW WE SPEND MORE TO PAY BACK CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTORS. IS YOUR GOAL TO MAKE ALL AMERICANS SLAVES TO THE SYSTEM? SOME OF US DO NOT BELIEVE IN WELFARE FOR LAZY PEOPLE, THAT CARE OF THE SICK & ELDERLY, NOT THE LAZY. HOWEVER YOU ARE TRYING TO SUPPRESS THE REST OF US & THESE YOUNG VOTERS AN LIKE CATTLE GOING TO SLAUGHTER, FOLLOW THE LEADER. TELL ME HOW YOU SLEEP AT NIGHT? I NEED TO KNOW AS I AM NOT SURE FROM ONE DAY TO THE NEXT & SLEEP VERY LITTLE. IF I CAN I WILL GET ALL AMERICANS TO STAND UP & TAKE THIS COUNTRY BACK, FOR THE PEOPLE & BY THE PEOPLE, NOT JUST BIG BUSINESS & DEEP POCKETS. WE NEED TO TEACH THESE YOUNGER PEOPLE ABOUT HISTORY, WE NEED TO THROW SOME TEA INTO THE HARBOR. I AM SURE THAT YOU ARE GOING TO SAY TO YOURSELF, BUT WE ARE PUTTING SOME PEOPLE BACK TO WORK, BIG JOKE, YOU ARE PUTTING THE FEW THAT CAN DO ROAD CONSTRUCTION(I am also sure the contracts will go to one of the big boys & cost the government far more by the time the road is done, I have never in my life seen it any other way). WHAT ABOUT THE SALESPERSON,THE AVERAGE PERSON & THE OLDER WORKERS? GEE THESE ARE MOST OF THE PEOPLE, OH WELL!! HERE IS A GREAT IDEA, VOTE FOR THE PEOPLE!!!

I was a strong supporter of the new President but Congress is getting out of control and he doesn't seem to have the foresight or power to stop them and to be honest it scares me.

Unlike most people who are on one side or the other I actually do believe that sometimes Government is more effecitve then the private sector. The VA for example provides higher quality care at much lower cost. (don't confuse it with DOD) It also costs less then a dollar to use the postal service to send a letter but $15 for UPS. The fire department gets to your house in 3 minutes but it costs over $1500 for a private ambulance to transport someone to the hospital.

But doubling the dept of education budget? 20 billion for computerized medical records and letting drug companies use the data to market to patients (Harkin made changes today) at the same time people are going without health care and going bankrupt when they get cancer?

Why aren't we cutting the largest portion of the budget the military? This train needs someone to stand up and slow things down. We all got in this problem because we were told to use credit to buy our way out of it and now the Government is doing the same thing.

I watched "The White House Tonight" and tried to make some sense out of each rep. who spoke but of course it was the GOP saying it's all a ploy to get a liberal wish list taken care of and the dems crying the same old Republicans giving money to the top $ makers (is that cause they really believe that people who pay no taxes should get money back - that I just do not understand) and I'm trying to be open-minded. Found this website that posts the full 600+ pages of the bill for anyone who is interested. I hope for the sake of our country that there is some truth in what Obama is up to, but given his record of being to the extreme left of the lefts it's hard to believe that suddenly he wants bipartisan change. Rhetoric is one thing - the actions of his past are quite another.

Does anybody actually realize that someone is going to have to pay back all of this money either in unending taxes or a sharply devalued, ever-more-worthless dollar? What are our representatives thinking? Has the government ever, ever spent our money efficiently? I cannot think of one example. This reckless spending damages all of us. Has any of this spending helped a blasted thing thus far? That's a big fat negative! Handouts and "pork" are not fuels that drive the economic engine. Hard working individuals with vision, ambition, and motivation to succeed--that is our economy's greatest resource. Foster that kind of behavior and see how quickly this country moves ahead. Remember these words? "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country!" I fear that all too many people think that Uncle Sam should be a Sugar Daddy. Let's stop, breathe, and think about all this, shall we?
