KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia (AP) — Shaun White says he is at peace with his decision to skip slopestyle at the Olympics and focus on the halfpipe.
Wrapping up the first day of practice on the halfpipe Saturday while the slopestyle finals were taking place, White told The Associated Press it was a tough decision to make "but you set your goals according to what's important to you. Halfpipe is important to me and I didn't want to jeopardize that."
He'll go for his third straight Olympic gold medal in the event Tuesday.
He withdrew from the Olympic debut of slopestyle after a couple of rugged days of practice on a course he called "intimidating."
The halfpipe, White says, is better but still needs work over the next two days.
