Mets nix idea for racy dating site to elect Wright

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Mets want to do most anything to get David Wright elected to the All-Star team this season. Well, almost anything.

The Mets say they have backed off their latest idea — teaming up with a racy dating website that caters to women looking to meet younger men.

The team said Thursday that it had approached cougarlife.com about trying to help Wright get picked, but later decided to pass. The website featured Wright in an article last month.

Deadspin.com first reported the Mets talked to the site.

The Mets will host the All-Star game next month at Citi Field. Wright was trailing San Francisco's Pablo Sandoval for the National League's starting spot at third base in the most recent results of fan voting.

Wright says he's asked the Mets to "back it down a little bit" in their push to get him chosen.
