Despite that early education in public relations, the Fed chief has still taken steps to ensure greater Fed transparency. This trend toward openness has been almost 20 years in the making, but Bernanke has explored even newer ways of opening avenues of communication. In March 2009, he gave an interview to CBS's 60 Minutes—the first with a sitting Fed chairman in 20 years—and again in December 2010 he spoke to the news magazine. And in April, the Fed hosted the first of what are to be regular press conferences.
