Sen. John McCain, a Navy pilot who endured years of torture at the hands of Vietnamese captors, has an amazing life story—and has made that story known through several best-selling memoirs. The success of those books has afforded him some luxuries which most Americans can only dream of. Unfortunately for him, the Republican presidential candidate accidentally reminded voters of this in 2008 when he appeared to forget how many houses he owned while answering a question from a Politico reporter. The publication eventually reported that McCain's family owns as many as eight different properties, although some were investments.
