Missouri Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill recently made news when she announced on Twitter that she had lost 50 pounds. “GOOAALLLLLLLL!! I did it! Lost 50 lbs.,” she wrote, citing healthy eating and her “new BFF...Mr Treadmill” as her aids to success. She also told CBS News that Twitter itself was one of her keys to shedding the weight: “It meant that people were going to be watching to see if in fact I stayed on track, if I actually made that commitment to work out everyday of the week and to really be accountable.” McCaskill has said that she lost the weight in part to get into fighting shape for her upcoming election.
Here are seven other U.S. political figures who in recent times have dropped significant weight.
