With the announcement that West Virginia University will be joining the Big 12, it appears that West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin outmaneuvered Kentucky Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell over whose alma mater would get the plum conference spot, WVU or the University of Louisville. It's hardly the first time that Washington politicians have gotten involved in sports. Indeed, sometimes it's hard to tell where the politics ends and the sports begins. Here are some other examples.
