Former Idaho Sen. Larry Craig, a Republican, was arrested in 2007 in Minnesota for allegedly soliciting an undercover police officer for sexual activity in an airport restroom. Craig, who has a wife, denied any wrongdoing and argued that he has a "wide stance." He eventually pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge. He initially announced his intent to resign, but then changed his mind and served until his term was up at the end of 2008. After his arrest, several men came forward to allege sexual encounters with Craig or attempted sexual encounters initiated by Craig. During his political career, Craig had a record of supporting anti-gay legislation.
