Government agencies have stepped up their policing of corporate behavior, with many name-brand companies settling charges of wrongdoing by agreeing to pay sizable fines. Some of the cases relate to the financial crisis that erupted in 2008, but others may simply reflect more aggressive regulation. With the government winning more cases, some experts think the trend could intensify.
