Nothing more than a progressive agenda wrapped in the words "Social Justice." His theological/philosophical stance is the seed to worldwide poverty. If him and his marxist friends would stop bringing about corporatism and let capitalism work, we might see a change in poverty. Read history Jim and stop drinking the kool aid.

Budgets are moral documents that reflect what we care about. Budget and tax bills that increase the deficit put our children's futures in jeopardy..........Jim Wallis
I guess this only applies to George Bush and conservatives.

Jim Wallis collects money for the poor
and then spends it on his own political
agenda. He hated George Bush and slams the
military often. The IRS should look into
this scam.

Though I can't answer the question for certain, I think the cynicism is inappropriate. I have a friend who has taken classes from Jim Wallis while at Gordon Cornwell. Jim Wallis does profess to be a Christian believer and considers himself an evangelical.
So it is okay to ask the question, but to say "I'll bet that.." means that you have already judged him without any solid information. Sorry but that is wrong and not biblical.
As for his activities, that is a fair question. On the other hand, do you use the same standard to judge other groups that lobby for their Christian perspective.. such as Concerned Women of America, etc. For example, some prolife groups are only involved in lobbying, unlike pregancy support which primarily provides services. Are they wrong too?

Hmmm, this is interesting. What exactly makes Wallis an Evangelical? In fact what Evangelical church does he even belong to or for that matter is he even a part of local congregation? I bet this hasn't served as an official member of a worshiping community in years. Seems like a lot of people like Wallis use religion very well to meet their personal agenda. I think he no different that these other personality cults we see. Poverty, does Jim Wallis actually deal with poor people or does he just see himself as the champion of thier cause? What role do the poor actually play in his organizations. Are their any Black, Latino and other cultures represented in his organizations that seeks to "help the poor? I went to this guys website and sorry but I didn't see images of the poor or testimonies from the poor regarding Wallis' work but I did see Wallis and a lot of his Liberal friends. So where are the poor in his work? Do they actually have a voice in his organization or has he simply annointed himself spokesperson for the poor.

Interesting and informative article.
It seems to me that the traditional conservative Christian focus on abortion, gay marriage, etc. is not a focus that stems from a sense of compassion and/or a desire to reduce human suffering. It doesn't take much (if any) personal sacrifice to be engaged in “a war” against abortion. On the contrary, those who spend all of their time and energy engaging in such “a war” seem to gain a great deal from it in terms of ego gratification. I am glad to see a trend among younger Christians in our country to focus instead on truly selfless, service-oriented issues such as poverty the pursuit of world peace.
As Christianity evolves in our society, I would guess that more and more people will come to understand that a person can be pro-life (personally opposed to abortion) while at the same time being pro-choice (believing that women must be given the right to decide for themselves.). For an older (increasingly irrelevant?) generation of evangelical Christians who tend to think in terms of black and white and an “us vs. them” mentality, a new wave of perspectives regarding abortion, gay marriage, civil unions, etc. is going to be a bitter pill to swallow. However, as was seen in the 2008 election, times are changing, and the perspectives of a younger, more compassionate and thoughtful generation of Christians (and non-Christians alike) are not going away any time soon.
Get on board or be left behind. The choice is up to them.

I have always credited the Jesuits for beginning my education and Rev. Richard Sering, founder of Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry in Cleveland for completing it. Jim Wallis has continued it and that has shaped my work at LMM. Thank you, Jim!

I am a graduate of fundamentalist, Bob Jones University, and I consider myself to be an evangelical. I am extremely supportive of Jim Wallis and the Sojourners ministry because of their biblical emphasis on social justice and helping the "least among us." In July, I will be 70 years old, so I am NOT one of the young evangelicals that supported Obama. The world needs to know that there are a lot of evangelicals who are conservative in thier theology, but liberal in their politics, regardless of age. We are the "born again" liberals.
