There is no suchthingas a Cathlic Democrat. You can be Catholic, you can be a Democrat. The name Catholic Democrat is an oxymoron.

Last night, 4/29/09, I listened as Obama talk about the morals of Americans in respect to "torture". This is rather unnerving since he selected and Congress approved Sebelius for the HHS position. Her stance on abortion is apalling.

It seems as though our policy is to coddle the bad guys while we torture the innocent babies through abortion. The cruel methods used to murder a baby during a mother's pregnancy cannot be compared with splashing some water on a terriorist face.

Where is our country going? I have such fear for my grandchildren and great grandchildren.

If you simply read the Bible, especially the Old Testament, boy, you get to kill folks and all. That's why you need some organization like the Catholic Church to interpret the Bible, as it has for over 2,000 years. If not studied for centuries, you just read it, well, let the killings start.

When I read about a politician who has taken the Kennedy stand on abortion (personally against it, but see it as a woman's right), I wonder if there were such people in the mid 19th century. Did people argue, "I'm personally against slavery, but I uphold the rights of white men to own blacks?"

I have worked with people of different faiths in my own community that are mutually concerned about the moral direction of the nation. I have stated repeatedly that as many people as there are in this nation that claim to uphold Judeo-Christian values it is inexcusable that we do not have more collective influence in the culture of the nation. I am thankful for the inroads that are being made.

If people concerned about cultivating a respect for God given human life come together at the center on the economic issues and find common ground, real positive changes can be brought about. Mother Teresa said "You wonder why you have such crime and violence in your nation. I tell you it is because the violence begins in the womb between the mother and her child." I have been a volunteer and given financially to different organizations that help provide housing and job training and also teach parenting skills to young women who find themselves with an unexpected pregnancy. When every prison in the nation is overflowing may God give each of us wisdom to find common ground, have more positive influence in the culture, and "Turn the Tide" for the next generation.

Why are people so jaded that they complain of political influence when a bishop does his job, which is partly to protect the integrity of the sacraments, avoid scandal and challenge the individual out of a concern for her eternal well-being? Or are we all deluded like a certain Speaker of the House, who suggests the Church does not know the nature of abortion. Thankfully, the Church does know its nature and has called it and continues to call it (read the Catechism ) a grave moral evil. We join in prayer for the souls of those young and perhaps not so young (men and women) who are led to procure abortion because of its "legality" and the support of 'catholic' leaders. And of course we pray for the souls of the unborn.

Never trust ANY reporter or person who tries to use Catholics United (or Catholics Alligned for Common Good) to speak for Catholics. Both are funded in part by George Seros with the sole purpose of pushing abortion rights. I just finished a college paper researching both groups. They are Catholic in name only! Heck, Seros is a far left Jewishish man and has no interest in Catholics other than to influence politices against life. Killing is killing plain and simple. My foolish Catholic friends wanted to believe Obama wouldn't kill (by stem cell research instead of putting $$$ toward the wonderful skin cell technology, by paying for overseas abortions, by making pharmacists kill with Ru486, etc). They deluded themselves even though Obama SAID he would do those things and his voting record was clear. Why would anyone be surprised his pick would be supportive of killing? Anyone who says she is personally against killing (abortion) but supports peoples rights to kill babies should be disqualified based on immorality and stupidity. Sorry, God, I have no patience for murderers.

Steve, you are wrong. Because a bishop decided to use a sacrament as a political weapon does NOT mean Sebelius is no longer Catholic.

Jennie of CT 3:46PM March 11, 2009

denies the Eucharist to a Catholic politician for acts by that person in public office, it's time for two things to happen:

Number One

The Catholic needs to get sense and go worship with the Protestants. Jesus is there too, and you get to talk with him directly without interference from a robed guy.

Number Two

The IRS needs to commence action to repeal the income tax exemption of the Catholic Church---because political meddling is underway. You cannot bribe politicians with the sacraments any more than you can bribe them with money.

Muser of NM 3:22PM March 11, 2009

I have a graduate degree in Catholic theology.

Kathleen Sebelius has been denied the Eucharist because she is no longer Catholic.

The title of this piece is wrong - it should read "The Devolution of Catholic Democrats."
