WASHINGTON (AP) — Immigration backers are gearing up for a campaign to push the House to pass comprehensive legislation offering citizenship to millions.

Business, religious and other outside groups with ties to House Republicans are under pressure from congressional immigration overhaul backers to step up their efforts.

They defend what they've done so far but are aiming to coordinate more closely.

Congress' monthlong August recess will be crucial and supporters aim to try to exert influence in dozens of congressional districts.

Immigration legislation has been in limbo since the Senate last month passed far-reaching legislation to secure the border and create a pathway to citizenship for 11 million immigrants already living illegally in the United States.
