WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is hosting a group of female senators for dinner at the White House.

The White House says all 20 female senators were invited.

It's part of Obama's ongoing efforts to improve the lines of communication with Congress and the prospects for compromise.

Last week, Obama shared a meal with a dozen Senate Democrats at a hotel near the White House. He's hosted two similar dinners for Senate Republicans in recent weeks.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York says late last year, she requested that Obama attend the dinner female senators hold regularly once a quarter. Instead, he offered to host it himself.

Gillibrand says she plans to bring up women's economic issues such as equal pay and a higher minimum wage.
