WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Florida Rep. Allen West is endorsing Rep. Sandy Adams, backing a fellow tea party freshman over 10-term Rep. John Mica in next month's GOP primary.
In a statement from the Adams campaign Thursday, West said he is backing Adams because she represents a "new generation" of Republican conservatives looking for solutions and working against some on Capitol Hill who he says would rather perpetuate problems.
The endorsement from West, who represents another Florida district, comes less than a month before the Aug. 14 primary between Adams and Mica, who is the chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
Redistricting pitted Mica against Adams in the central Florida district. The primary winner is likely to prevail in November in the Republican-leaning district.
