WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum picked up at least 29 delegates Tuesday after winning the Alabama and Mississippi Republican presidential primaries. But former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney offset Santorum's double primary triumph by picking up the support of all nine delegates from American Samoa.
Romney added at least 31 delegates to his total Tuesday, including three unpledged Republican National Committee members who backed him after he won six delegates at the American Samoa caucuses. His total included at least 22 delegates in Alabama and Mississippi, even though he finished third in both states.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich won at least 24 delegates by finishing second in the two Southern primaries. Texas Rep. Ron Paul was being shut out.
