Cantor: Romney ultimately will be the GOP nominee

March 7, 2012 RSS Feed Print

WASHINGTON (AP) — The No. 2 House Republican says Mitt Romney, despite some setbacks, will emerge from the GOP presidential nominating fight as the party's standard-bearer against President Barack Obama.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor tells CBS "This Morning" that Romney's ascension to the top is inevitable, saying his two closest rivals, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich, "have not demonstrated an ability to do what needs to be done" to lock down the nod.

Cantor says Romney will ultimately be chosen as the party's nominee "because he's the only candidate in this race who's got a plan to turn this economy around."

The Virginia Republican, who has endorsed Romney, calls the former Massachusetts governor the man who has "outperformed all the other candidates." He says, "You're seeing an increasing flow toward Mitt Romney."

Sorry, Ron Paul in 2012? That ship has sailed.

It may very well be Romney who ends up being the Republican nominee but only because the Republican establishment has decided to "settle" for this guy, as demonstrated by Eric Cantor's recent endorsement of Romney.

I can tell you one thing though, if this does in fact happen, Romney will lose badly to Obama in November; not because there is anything special about Obama but because Romney simply CAN NOT win! It would be the biggest mistake the Republican Party could make to nominate this guy. He will not be able to get the support of all the different groups that he would need to overtake Obama, most notably "real" conservatives, Libertarians, Independents, Democrats, and the clencher......Ron Paul supporters. Romney will lose to Obama just on his lack of support from the Ron Paul supporters alone! Then when you add in the other groups, Romney is looking at a 30 point loss. It would be even worse if Rick Santorum were to win the nomination but he won't!

So we all have two choices: nominate Romney and lose Bob Dole-style in November, or nominate Ron Paul and have the best chance to beat Obama. If we allow neocon clowns like Eric Cantor and his establishment cronies to make the choice for us, we will all be standing in bread lines next year when the government and the stock market go belly up! Don't be a fool!

Ron Paul 2012!!
