Obama to address economy in political important NC

March 2, 2012 RSS Feed Print

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama will travel to Charlotte, N.C., Wednesday to speak about the economy.

The trip keeps up Obama's weekly visits to politically important states, drawing attention to the economic recovery and steps aimed at sustaining it.

The White House has given no details on the trip. Obama promoted his energy agenda in Florida and New Hampshire over the past two weeks.

Obama narrowly won North Carolina in 2008, and advisers believe he has a shot there again. But the state has been hit hard by the economic downturn, ranking fourth among states with the highest unemployment at the end of the year.

He was last there on Dec. 14 on a visit to Fort Bragg.
