GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — Republican presidential contender Rick Santorum has dubbed himself a conservative heavyweight.

The former Pennsylvania senator was responding to criticism from rival Mitt Romney hours before polls closed Tuesday in Michigan's closely contested GOP presidential primary. Romney had called Santorum an "economic lightweight" earlier in the day.

At an appearance in Grand Rapids, Mich., Santorum suggested that Romney was confused. He said Romney may be a heavyweight when it comes to personal wealth and experience in the financial world but that Romney has had "zero" success in conservative accomplishments.

Santorum declared himself the "heavyweight in this race" when it comes to "moving the country in the conservative direction."
