ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Police in upstate New York say a 6-year-old boy snoozing in his father's car never woke up while the vehicle was being stolen after it was left running outside a store.

Officers tell Rochester media outlets that a 26-year-old man from Irondequoit (uh-RAHN'-duh-kwoyt) left his car running while he went inside a convenience store to get a drink late Saturday night.

While inside the store, someone jumped into the car and drove off with the boy asleep in the car.

Police say the car was found abandoned within 30 minutes. Officials say the boy wasn't harmed and had slept through the entire ordeal.

Police charged the boy's father with endangering the welfare of a child.

The car thief hasn't been found.
