Terror Trials a Risky Move for Obama

Dick Cheney did a great job on 9/11. No interceptors. No evacuations of the Pentagon. Lies that he wasn't in the bunker when it was hit. In charge of secret war games that blocked preventive measures. He also remembers that at the Moussaiou trial in 2006 the FBI testified Barbara Olson's calls were unconnected. That means Ted's press conference and Larry King Live appearance were spreading total fabrications. Cheney doesn't want the truth to come out. Keep the trials hidden. Remember he fought an inquiry into 9/11 until they agreed he and Bush would not have to testify and Phillip Zelikow, who helped write the PNAC statement that what we needed was another Pearl Harbor to get the public behind military expansions was put in charge as Executive Director. The report left out Norman Mineta's and William Rodriguez testimony and ignored Steven Forbes attempts to point out the wiring going on the weekend before the 9/11 Twin Towers attack.

Can anybody out there explain why these foreign enemy combatants are going to be given the same civil rights as an American citizen?

I'm sure this is another Obama decision. It makes you wonder if anybody in this administration knows what they are doing. What we need to look into is who is in position to gain the most financially.

P.S. Al Qaeda ,James ,not only goes for maximum effect -loaded with symbolism ,but is miles down the road when we do strike back . So,as Pentangeli would say -"let's hit'em while we still got the muscle".Consider it a sound investment.

Small fry James,no one back in Osama-land would hit us if we try ,then give the wannabes punitive sentences. But they would certainly be motivated to make NYC a target again if it is KSM & other high echelon plotters -given their propensity for inflicting psychological trauma on a mass scale.BTW James -they really DO hate our f@*#$!^ guts.Careful ,the posture you 're assuming could get a lot of people killed.

A known illegal non US citizen drug smuggler put two border patrol agents, Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos, in prison for nearly two years for violating the drug smugglers rights as they tried to arrest him while he was bringing drugs across the US Mexican border. If that can happen in a US civil court, anything can.

There's nothing to gain by trying them in a civilian court. I have yet to hear Mr. Holder or any Administration official explain what we hope to achieve by this.

The what-ifs are fun speculation, but the bottom line is that we have nothing to gain and everything to lose.

That may be the purpose behind it; to lose. Use the trial to expose misdeeds by the government. Prosecuting governmental transgressions isn't a bad thing, but this isn't the proper venue for it. They're supposed to be prosecuting terrorists here, not the government.

The daily exposure in court of US government kidnappings, extraordinary rendition to countries where suspects are tortured, black sites, etc. Can't have that on the front page every day going into mid-term elections, now can we?

In my view, Zacarias Moussaoui, John Walker Lindh, Jose Padilla, and Richard Reid were all successfully prosecuted in Federal court. All the uproar about KSM and the other 9/11 suspects is mainly political posturing.
