I suggest you go live in a country where the daily necessities are in the hands of the government and not a regulated private company, then come back and let us all know just how it just doesn´t work out so well. I live in one, the prices are above world average for what you call the daily necessities due to corruption and waste and the service is below anything that would be accepted by the consumer if they had a choice or any direct or indirect influence on how they are managed. The phone company here was run by the government and nobody had a phone, too expensive and if you could afford it there was a wait of 6 months at least in every major city. It is now in private hands, the price is still high but it has remained the same for the last 8 years. The service is pretty good now (for a 3rd world country) & the customer is treated with respect.

I would also love to see where and in what history book you get your information on "the people" aka the government owning everything when the USA was founded. I guess it was the same one that says we attacked N. Korea, the USSR and PRC. Just when did that happen? I seem to have read somewhere that N. Korea started a war and we and the UN forces repelled that invasion, not the other way around. The war in Viet Nam was (badly) fought because of treaty obligations and to stop the spread of the moronic idea that a socialist/communist dictatorship with nationalization of private property has the interest of the people at heart plus the strategic and economic interest of our country were thought to be in jeopardy. It was our puppet government against the communist puppet government. Those folks from Ho chi Min´s army were fighting for the good of the people, sort of like the little bunch called the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, right? Even the North Vietnamese saw that as being too extreme, plus the fact they started attacking Viet Nam. How many people were killed by Mao after he took control? How many were killed by Lenin and Stalin? How many were killed by Ho´s forces after the war? N. Korea is a real paradise on earth, that´s why people risk their lives to escape to all places the PRC. To see the PRC as an improvement says it all.

You and your fellow believers in this will have a hard time taking something away from individuals. The law gives people the right to protect their property and nature disposes us to take care of what is ours. Businesses are not evil; they are supposed to make a profit that is why you have a job and are able to buy your computer. Your idea would remove all incentive for improvement, development and innovation. The reason the countries you mention have a lower standard of living than you enjoy is precisely because they follow what you preach. I suggest you pick up and read an actual history book Winston Churchill wrote a great one about American history, The Wealth of Nations, by Adam Smith, The Federalist Papers or the short version called the Constitution of the United States o

Obama is not only glad to seek information, he demands it. I've read many books about management styles of presidents. They were supposed to read daily "briefings" made for them by cabinet members, "experts" in FBI, CIA, etc, it seems Reagan often let others read the briefings & Bush Jr. was delinquent about that chore. He was often on vacation. Recent revelations show Nixon was an alcoholic on meds, getting psychiatric care for a long time. It didn't surprise me that one author said Nixon was gay with Bebe Rebozo, who helped Nixon get lots of money through Mafia-attached deals. I felt sorry for Pat when it was revealed Nixon beat her, with a hospital trip & black eye on two occasions. Reagan's failing mental faculties turned out to include Alzheimer's. it sees to me that Obama may be the most nearly mentally "normal" president in a long time. Truman, anti-Semitic, wrecked FDR's friendship with Stalin & issued his war-making Truman Doctrine of Containment of Communism. We must treasure our Constitutional right to have freedom of the press, so we can become the educated electorate needed to preserve our precious republic. Good for Obama.

When a nation puts natural resources into public ownership, they've socialized them. That means ending their former status as Private Property. When the USA began, "we the people" (the government) owned everything. Then crooks in Congress (often for a bribe) let pals buy deposits of oil, natural gas, coal, etc. And water sources, RR rights of way. Those all became Private Property. Owners then built & ran everything now called "daily necessities"--electricity, water, etc. They were "the only game in town." Since then, we've paid what they demand. Many churches had so much income that they bought shares in phone, water, gas, gasoline, electricity & other necessities. They have a vested interest in turning public opinion against public property. I comment because on Pg. 1414, Vol. 4 of an edition of "The Catholic Reference Encyclopedia, it says "the Church vigorously defends against those political systems that seek to replace Private with Public Property." I was amazed to find that, yet it does not surprise me when I recall the USA has done a lot of that defending. We attacked noncapitalist N. Korea, N. Nam, Cuba, the USSR, the PRC, etc. This is one reason why I say all would be better without religion.
