Black-white, good cop-bad cop should not be an issue here. I am a white woman married to a mexican man. I have a white/mexican granddaughter and a white/mexican/black granddaughter that i could not be prouder of. What i am ashamed of is the beer itself. What kind of example are we sending to our children. Alcohol of any kind kills. I am a nurse and i have seen wrecks by drunks who have killed innocent people yet the leader of our great country is seen drinking many times now on tv and in the newspapers. Am i the only one who sees something wrong with this Mr. President? What about all the medical conditions alcholism leads to. Who is telling our kids about this? If you want to drink that is your business, but should u be doing it on national tv. It has already been proven that it impairs our ability to think straight or to move quickly? Evidently it has already impaired our presidents. What is he thinking? And he has small children! What a great example dad!

@ ladyofFL-That is why obama got into the mess too for commenting without knowing the facts. He did show his ID and i think the officer was trying to prove just how much power and authority he had because gates was not polite or did not beg for mercy. This happens everyday to all races where police believe they can always have an excuse to arrest at there descretion. It is had to be polite to somebody that thinks they have authority over all. Its a risky job but those risk dont outway those of a nurse, construction worker or bank teller.

The Gates-Crowley incident was not "Racial Profiling," it was "Contempt of Cop," a frequent occurrence with a high incidence of race and class bias. If they are wise, Dr. Gates and Sgt. Crowley will do a joint study of the “Contempt of Cop” issue. Sgt. Crowley (who taught a class on racial profiling at the Lowell Police Academy) could instruct officers how to avoid this abuse of discretionary police powers of arrest.

What if it was a robbery taking place. How was the police to know that it was the home owner that was behind the door. The

police asked for an ID. What was wrong with showing the police his ID to prove he was the home owner behind that door. I would

had been thankful that the police were protecting my home. What if the police just said ok have a good day. And left the house with the robber behind that door. Good old Gates came home and found his things gone. Gates was the one playing the RACE CARD

not the police. I would of just showed my ID and that is all it would of been to it. The police would of left. I think the police could not win from losing in this case. What if the police was black and the home owner were white would it of been a race thing then. Only whites are racist and not blacks. I see a lot of blacks that are racist. It is not going to get any better. Obama should of kept out of this one. So what Gates were his friend. We Americans are in trouble. Sad to say it is going to get worse. You can not walk around thinking all whites are being racist. That is just not healthy. Whites don't walk around thinking all blacks are being racist.

Whey was the Prsident and V President together....again!!! For god sakes, they are not to be in public together....or is that just something, like everything else they do in the White House today a rule they don't follow.

Sorry, but that's COMPLETELY ridiclous, and it's further

evidence of Liberal America's attitude. I think Tammy from Illinois hit it right on the head: How would this incident have gone down if it had been a white person that Crowley showed

up to investigate, or even a "Joe six-pack" black man.

Chances are that the white man AND the "Joe six-pack: black

man would have both cooperated and shown their ID's to the officer, and within minutes the incident probably would have been cleared up and Crowley would have been on his way.

Afterall, if you are a legit person and you are in your own home

or on your own property, what cause would you have NOT to cooperate??? If you're not breaking any laws, and not genuinely

a theif trying to enter "the professor's house", why WOULDN'T

you just show the police your idea and resolve the issue at once?

I have to say that if I had been officer Crowley, I would have handled it the same way. Professor Gates threw the race card

down in a ridiculous attempt to smear the officer. I would have told Obama AND the professor BOTH to cram it with the beer

clanking, and I'd have reminded the professor that I was dispatched to his house for a reason. I would also remind him that AS a police officer, I simply do not take a person's word that they are who they say they are..(VERY dumb professor!).

Grow up professor, and grow up "black America", give it a rest

with the racial profiling crap already.

Totally irresponsible of the President to even comment on an event when he didn't have all the facts. Regardless of age or walking with a cane or not, ANYONE can be beligerent and can cause harm to others. The only reason this was so heated is the Professer is a friend of Obama's, happened to be black and educated. I wonder how it would have went down if the person in question was an ordinary white citizen with no friendship to the Pres or an ordinary black citizen for that matter. God help us all if this is the President's way of handling issues...just have a beer! Wow...how sad!!!

When Abe Lincoln was a young lawyer he wrote a letter to The Springfield Journal lampooning a local politician, that man challenged Lincoln to a dual. Lincoln learned to stop being critical of people and no longer critiqued people in an unfriendly maner. At Gettysburg General Meade had a prime opprounity to end the war, General Lee's army was trapped by a swollen Potomac, he could not cross. Lincoln sent a dispatch to Gen Meade, ordering him to capture Lee's forces on the river. Meade instead held a war council. Giving Lee's army time to escape. After Lincoln's death amoung his personal papers was a letter for General Meade. It basically talked about how he missed his chance (a golden opprotunity) to end the war and the dispare President Lincoln felt. President Lincoln thought better of sending the letter to avoid further conflict in a time already filled with conflict, (Read "How to Win Friends and Infulence People" by Dale Carnegie for a full discription of President Lincoln <Chapter 1>).

What we can learn about President Lincoln from Mr. Carnegie's book? Is He would not have expressed his opinion in a matter that would cause hurt and dissention.

Maybe President Obama could follow that example from President Lincoln.

The only thing good coming from this is the free add for beer.
