I will admit that this is an extremely promising research--however I don't think it's moral. Embryonic stem cell research and experiments require harvesting stem cells from an embryo cloned using somatic cell nuclear transfer (By the way JP, the Center for Parkinson's research has found adult stem cells to be promising, though we're unsure--I wouldn't put them out of the picture yet). To create a clone, a potential human being would be killed. We are literally killing another person. Is it right for us as imperfect beings to tamper with a dimension held in balance ever so delicately? The majority of clones have disorders and often die young, and the cloning success rate of simpler animals like rodents is lower than 1%. We are ignoring warning signs, and it may very well be our downfall. I think we should stick to cloning rats. I don't think that Obama is the Antichrist or a terrorist or any other of the lies told about him--I simply think that he's misguided.

Undeniably, Ban-Abortion churches lead the battle to prevent embryonic stem cell research. Why do they do that? The word "embryonic" explains what tithe-dependent churches worry about. They know a conception is a potential believer who will pay the huge ten per cent tithe. It's $160,000 if a person pays 40 years on a steady annual income of $40,000. If the conception is aborted, that's a lot of lost church income. I am eager for the time when dentists can implant tooth buds. My prosthodontist says researchers have grown tooth buds in rats but they're not the right shape yet. Pres. Obama is to be thanked for his advancement of science.

This is in reponse to JP of MD:

Research as of mid-2003 has shown the body's capacity to regrow neuro cells. Popular belief is that "we are born with all the cardiac and neuro cells we will ever need." A group in Canada has proven the capacity of growth of glial cells and formation of neurons.

The reference is cited in Social Alternatives Vol. 22 No. 1, Summer 2003 per Alan Mackay-Sim in "Stem Cells - A Beginner's Guide".

As an individual with direct education and sound scientific backing and education regarding genetic medicine and the need for embryo stem cells as I read the comments above I realize that this battle is occuring secondary to a misconception about stem cells. Blast stem cells, the readily available stem cells Mark of OK is refering to cannot be used to fight such diseases that effect neurological and cardiac diseases that are deadly to so many individuals. We are born with a certain number of cardiac and neuro cells at birth. We do not regain more when they are damamged, hence heart attatcks and strokes are deadly. Embryo stemm cells potentially have the ability to be differientated into these cells needed to fight these diseases. Before you quote scripture and claim an understanding to your homework and listen to those "scientists" who actually have the education and understanding as to why this resarch is so important..Their goal is to find a cure..don't you think that if there were other strong avenues of hope we would have elplored them before engaging in an open battle with uneducated misinformed bible beaters?

Exodus 21:22-24 (King James Version)

22If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

23And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,

24Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

If God didn't consider the destruction of an embryo murder, why do you? This research can help the living, the here and now.

i have always had this stem cell research and wondered why it is being pursued. is America not trying to test god. I can tell you as a christian i do not support this because somehow whoever initiated the research from the begging was it from god or Satan. i believe that the reason why bush never wanted to pursue this matter was that he felt that we are undermining our creator. I want the Americans to be very careful about this and really ask god if its the right thin to do.

Life can not be lived by avoiding idealogy unless you believe that everthing is alright. Much about science without the confines of morals creates a mechanism that is limitless to its bounds. The Houlacoust would pale in comparison if science rules without limits. So just where is the line that Obama has drawn today?

The restricitions on harvesting parts of human embryos actually did not leave a void on stem cell reasearch it just took a more powerful direction in realizing stems from the person who could benefit should be the provider of stem cells, then having an added benefit of no immune complications.

When stem cells are readily available from other sources why should a unborn embryo be used? If we will go that far then will we stop with with the unborn? Why should we waste a baby that nobody wants?

Obama is for change. Is this the change America needs or realy wants?
