I know because I served under his command, when we went into Northern Iraq, for Operations Provide Comfort, which he was the commanding officer for the command element 24th MEU, I was his SNCO Supply Chief. He was and still is a great leader. He will not dissapoint you.

Gen. Jones appears to be a good choice. He has the background, the experience, the education and credibility. All of these things contriubute to his potential for success. However, it will most likely be the unexpected events of the next four to eight years that will set the stage for him to perform. How he rises to each occasion and administers his new office will determine his place in history. While I did not vote for the new president, I will pray daily for his success. I shall also pray for the success of Gen. Jones. On the surface he appears to be a solid choice, cut from good stock and prepared as much as one man can be for these trying times.

I agree with James Fox of PA, however that is only one narrow point in favor of the General, nor is it the only expertise that makes the General qualified.
Besides being a Marine, with an outstanding and well rounded career, General Jones has lived his prime years in a foreign country. That in particular has surely help him mature with a more solid and objective point of view on the world than any home-raised person could ever achieve.
President elect Obama's good judgement will be proven IF he takes action on the General's advise.

The most impressive part of his resume is item #9. Most government and military officials apparently have no understanding of the link between energy and security, except to the extent that they want hundreds of billions in weapons to fight over it. That is a obviously a losing proposition, not least because the foreign sources are going to disappear anyway. Furthermore, most of Saudi Arabia's output now goes to China rather than the U.S. Should we risk a nuclear war (not to mention further bankrupting ourselves) to protect it? The money is much better spent in the U.S. on alternatives, and I am sure Gen. Jones has more enlightened ideas on how to deal with our security problems. President Obama will show once again that he is a lot smarter than his predecessor, no great feat in itself, but it augers well for our future.
