Obama Faces Tough Task of Containing North Korea's Nuclear Breakout

Six years of diplomatic wrangling and political and economic pressure have failed to resolve a key U.S. national security issue—North Korea's nuclear breakout. And if the past is any guide to the future, the incoming Obama administration will have to grapple with this dangerous problem for years to come.

Barack Obama's North Korea inheritance includes a tortured diplomatic history of defiance by Pyongyang, aloofness and paralyzing policy infighting by the Bush administration, and, most recently, slow and painful bargaining with a regime branded by President Bush as a charter member of the "axis of evil."

Above all, the legacy features a dictatorship that is believed to have produced enough plutonium for an estimated six to eight nuclear bombs and that two years ago conducted an underground atomic test blast. Unable to stop hunger in its midst and wed to Stalinist-style political prisons and repression, North Korea has nonetheless pushed open the door to the world's small club of nuclear weapons states.

By contrast, when Bush entered office in 2001, the secretive, communist regime in Pyongyang was thought to be concealing one or two bombs' worth of plutonium in spite of a previous diplomatic deal during the Clinton administration. In 2002 the Bush administration accused the North of running a clandestine uranium enrichment program, and the North kicked out international inspectors, pulled out of the Clinton-era agreement, and began manufacturing plutonium.

Washington initially refused to meet directly with Pyongyang's officials, instead demanding that North Korea reveal and stop all of its nuclear activities. As the North moved along the nuclear road, however, the Bush administration switched to a more pragmatic tack and agreed to a six-nation negotiating process with the aim of denuclearizing the North. That effort yielded an overall agreement on principles, but its implementation has been wracked—and delayed—by stormy disagreements. More disputes will undoubtedly arise during the Obama presidency.

In October, at the height of the U.S. presidential campaign, the State Department brokered a deal with Pyongyang in which the North was removed from the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism. In return, the North agreed to a watered-down verification plan. Probes of possible nuclear sites other than its well-known reactor complex at Yongbyon would be subject to "mutual consent." Questions about the North's alleged uranium enrichment work and transfer of nuclear know-how to Syria also remain unanswered. The October deal angered conservatives, including former Bush administration policymakers, and it left unsettled the most sensitive questions about future inspections.

In getting the administration to soften its long-standing doctrine on tough verification procedures, the North had resorted to its classic mix of bluster and brinkmanship. It had again ordered nuclear inspectors to leave, test-launched missiles, and threatened to reverse hard-won steps already taken to disable its Yongbyon complex. In November, Pyongyang put up yet another roadblock, declaring it would not allow what had been agreed to on the sampling of soil and atomic waste—key aspects of verifying its nuclear activities.

The North appeared to understand that a lame-duck administration was willing to bend in order to salvage the denuclearization process. "I think the North Koreans believe they have successfully forced the Bush administration to back down," says Gary Samore, a former U.S. nonproliferation official and director of studies at the Council on Foreign Relations. Adds North Korea expert and Obama campaign adviser Frank Jannuzi, "It's going to be a painful, step-by-step process getting to the truth."

The uncertainty about dealing with the so-called Hermit Kingdom has been deepened by intelligence reports that "Dear Leader" Kim Jong Il may have suffered a stroke and undergone brain surgery this summer but recovered sufficiently to remain in charge. He missed North Korea's 60th anniversary parade on September 9. Subsequently released photos—some of disputed vintage—purport to show him talking with Army troops and watching a soccer game. But the mystery remains.

Perhaps we should encourage periodic tantrums by both North Korea and Iran. Every missle they fire into the ocean and every missle and nuclear test they conduct on their own soil helps reduce their collective inventories of these potential war toys. Since, missles and nuclear materials don't come cheap, letting them dispose of them frequently may serve as an excellent form of self-imposed economic spankings.

The Implication Of the North Korean Atomic or Nuclear Testing May 24 - 25, 2009. PART 3.

By: Jordan C. Fan, Prophet of Environment.

In addition, all damages to Chinese and Korean soldiers and civilian lives during the Korean War must be compensated.

As I have written or mentioned many times before to many Americans such as presidents, congress persons other political, religious and business leaders before, “No Americans can live longer than Myself.” In other words, when I die all of them, Americans whether living in that nation or not, will die immediately or they can be destroyed much earlier if necessary. That is to say they will all die in much less then forty years depending on how long will I live? This is something unusual and unlucky for someone to prophesy on His birthday. Unfortunately, I have to speak the truth!

The current American presidential election of 2008 has demonstrated that never in the history of planet Earth have a group living organisms, Americans, been so irrational, stupid and illogical that the Environment has determined to destroyed these organisms - Americans. It is inexcusably stupid to sacrifice the well being of the entire world population simply for goal of “racism,” “affirmative actions,” or the lack of them. For living organisms, I mean creatures including dinosaurs, virus, bacteria, plants, insects, fish, human and other animals. All Americans must disappear from the face of the earth ASAP or the entire human population of this Planet will disappear with them. There are certainly antiquity and standard of intelligence and operation our Universe must maintain, keeping Americans on earth is against this principle. As Prophet of Environment, I have tried relentless to stop the election of Barack Obama and stop our “Doom Day” but no one listened. What’s more can I do?

The Implication Of the North Korean Atomic or Nuclear Testing May 24 - 25, 2009. PART 2.

That is until European and American imperialism and colonialism came into Asia to disrupt the peace of these three great ancient Asian nations - China, Korea, and Japan. Ever since the middle of the the nineteen century. There have been the threatening of Japan by American Admiral Perry and his navy, Opium War to sell drugs to Chinese, the British and French invasion to rob Qing palace treasures, the Eight Nations Invasion of China to empty the Chinese treasury, the Invasion of Japan after World War II to rape Japanese women, and then the Korean War to genocide the Asian race. In addition, the purpose for Americans invasion of Korea was also for economic reason that the Americans have found out that wars, occupation and exploitation of those nations were the best way to stimulate business after WWII especially in the defense sectors.

Furthermore, just what do a Blackman, Barack Obama, may allow to have anything to do with these three great Asian nations. It is simply ridicules for any Asian countries to even listen to or communicate with such Black man. In other word, Blackman never have any good or bad dealings with these three Asians in history, why now? To put it quite simply, White Americans have betrayed the trust of their Koreans and Japanese “allies” in putting a Black man as president for White American’s own convenience.

Also, just what have American racism or the lack of it have anything to do with China, Japan, Korea and any other nations of the world. Yet, since the Americans Civil War, the United States have constantly create chaos, civil wars and other conflicts all over the world just to cover up their internal disorders. Until today, while racism in the United States were continuously on the rise, the Americans still insist on initiating religious and ethnic uprising all over the world including those in Tibet. Through history, White and Black Americans alike have almost finished their genocide of Native Americans, Eskimos, and Hawaiian even in their own land. Given a country with the most abundant of natural resources and most beautiful Environment, the Americans have wasted and destroyed all of them with the excuse of Western expansion or “Manifest Destiny” which have finally reached Asia.

As Prophet of Environment, I am the direct Messenger of the Environment, Heaven, “God” and the “Devil”. It is my job to convey their messages. It is their commands that all Americans military or civilian personnel to be evicted from China, Japan, Korea and Indo-China immediately. As I am writing now, Their commands are being quickly enforced. Those Americans there will be tortured to the extreme and killed shortly with the most horrifying deaths. In addition, if Japan and South Korea were not evicting their Americans, they will soon be nuked or destroyed by other disasters.
