If you're wondering about the title for this comment segment it's because I don't feel that the ACLU is a true advocate of the American people and the ideas the Founding Fathers had fought and died for .. the Constitution Of The United States. The Founding Fathers fought and died so their descendants and anyone who came to our shores seeking to be free from persecution would have the right to challenge any organization or the government if that person felt their rights were being threatened in any way. And that is what the ACLU is becoming to America a threatening force to its properity and the way Americans want to live their lives. The reason I use the word threatening is because it seems that for the last several years the ACLU who once represented American values against abuses by corporations, business owners, and the government has lost its way and its purpose. Now in its search for the rights of Man it can't distinguish the difference between right and wrong. And rather than fighting for the rights and protection of victims, the ACLU searches current headlines to involve themselves into defending Atheists, child molesters, gangsta's, rapists, and home grown terrorists, etc. The SCUM OF AMERICA and just about any case contrary to American values to attract headlines. Their argument is that these individuals are innocent until proven guilty and though many times the evidence against these criminals is overwhelming the ACLU will arrogantly defend these deviants until they're put in jail or released back into society to again destroy American families. I strongly feel that under the cloak of compassion for American values the agenda of the ACLU is to destroy Capitalism as dictated by its founder Roger Baldwin in the 1930's, and to convert America into Communist states regardless of how long it takes. And though Roger Baldwin initially accepted Socialism and Communism in Russia in the 1930's he later recanted his opinion in 1939 about Socialism and admitted he could not justify the suppression of the opposition after seeing millions of Russians out of work, crime rising, and women begging in the streets while holding the hands of their children. And yet out of spite and to avoid admitting they're wrong the ACLU I'm certain will continue with their agenda to attack the passages and the laws of the Constitution that binds America and the rights of Americans to be free and to defend themselves against anyone or any organization that threatens their freedom. And that is why I can not conscientiously use the word American when it refers to the ACLU because it is a misnomer and is misleading the American people to believe it represents their values and the Constitution Of The United States. Now in 2010 you will have the opportunity to take back America by voting out all LIBERAL BUREAUCRATS regardless of political party. But especially in 2012 vote out the SOCIALISTS COMMUNIST DEMOCRATS throughout America ... and then let's get back to work!

I thought the ACLU was questionable. Not any more. The ACLU is there to protect individuals' rights from tyrany of the majority. And they do a pretty good job of it

Too bad for you that Roberts, Alito, Scalia and Thomas don't believe in that. They and swing vote Kennedy decide all cases unless and until one of them is replaced. Why are some griping about Sonia Sotomayor? She is irrelevant. It is entirely unlikely her vote will swing a majority for years yet to come.

Her appointment to the Supreme Court made a mockery out our, supposed, Supreme Court and judial system.

She is a proven 'biased' judge who bases her opinions on how she feels rather than strict adherence to the laws of the land!

The country is in a downward spiral with Obama at the helm!

The Constitution prohibits "established religion", a hold-over from England's established (read: government sponsored") Church of England, which basically excluded any other religions, and was essentially government-controlled. There was NEVER ANY intention to prohibit anything EXCEPT the government sponsoring a government-controlled religion.

Religious expression of ANY kind, from ANY religion, ANYWHERE, at ANYTIME, is expressly NOT proscribed by the Constitution. In fact, it is EXPRESSLY permitted, and PROTECTED, under the Freedom of Speech amendment.

I wish everybody would STOP interfering with the expression of religion. Period. All we have to do to keep faith with the Constitution is prohibiting the government from "establishing a religion".

Finally, we will see if the "Supremes" follow through with a correct verdict that local laws re the Second Amendment CANNOT trump federal law! My understanding is that local (state, county, etc.) ordinances may not directly oppose federal laws, if federal laws adddress a particular issue, e.g., a state may not make slavery legal! Let's see if the intentions of the Founding Fathers is honored. ALL rights guaranteed by the Constitution were/are individual, INCLUDING the right of self-defense by, at least home ownership of firearms. Carrying same is another issue. But I'm glad that at least that stupid, Socialist (read Liberal) interpretation of 'militia' was finally put in the grave!

The ACLU is a qualified non-profit organization but they don't receive a single penny from the government. Some citizens--such as myself--who treasure and wish to protect constitutional freedoms, voluntarily donate money to the ACLU. There are very, very few organizations that fight as much and so clearly stand for the ideals this country was founded upon and what we stand for. Freedom of expression, freedom of religion, protection of privacy, and challenges to expansive law enforcement practices.

Alex Kingsbury's "hot button issues" makes the same obvious error which keeps the constitutional principle of "separation between religion and government," James Madison, confused. As Glenn Beck gleefully points out on page 287 of his latest "Idiots" book, the words "church and state" are not in the Constitution. But, as you can read on page 19 of the best book on the subject, The Religion Commandments in the Constitution: "It is the religion commandments in the Constitution which should be hung on every Court room wall, posted and taught in every public school, and monumentalized throughout America, not the religion commandments of Moses or of any religion."

The Constitution prohibits government establishment of "religion," the whole subject, not just "church." It is "religion" which shall not be established by law, Congress, or government at any level. Glenn Beck is at least right in respect to the wording of the Constitution; he just does not comprehend the inclusiveness and meaning of "religion." Is establishment of the Mojave Christian cross an obvious government establishment of "religion"? Of course, and the cross should be removed. Now, we will see how many on the Supreme Court are really "strict constructionists."

I agree with the gentleman above..The ACLU is more anti-american than ACORN.

They are like a cancer on this nations Legal System. Let them get paid by the crazies that hire them...not me via my govt or tax dollars...

Its ashame..

Tom in San Diego of CA 3:33PM October 05, 2009

Why do we (The Government,) pay for the ACLU?? All they do is go against everything that this country has stood for lo these many years. They should be paid for by the people who are bringing these frivolous law suits, not the Federal Government....
