What is this, written for five-year-olds? For anyone who reads the papers over the past twenty years, these items would be common knowledge!

NASA was not exactly 'created' by President Eisenhower.

It was simply a name and appropriations/budgeting change from NACA - the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, established 1915 under President Wilson - to add 'Space' to their name and charter. They were already active in it that with rocket test facilities.

Staff, facilities, and programs in-work all transferred from NACA to NASA, and most carried-on.

Orville Wright headed it during the time my late Dad worked there - initially as a rivet inspector on that first full-scale wind tunnel, completed 1931.

Dad left in 1936, as he believed all that could be known about aeronautics had already been discovered by that date.

Go figure ....
