"Just turn out the lights".., and you know the rest! I worked for several years at JFK airport in Customs, and I know that the DHS folly was ridiculous. The jobs of Customs Inspector, Immigration Inspector, Special Agent, Plant Quarentine Inspector, Fish and Wildlife Inspector all ALL separate careers. You simply can't combine them, and expect the same level of professional knowledge. Add to that is the fact that JFK, like so many other large airports, deals with millions of international arrivals per year. The only good thing, IMO was the creation of the TSA. It's far better than the high-school dropouts hired by the airlines to screen passengers. Multi-tasking may work in the kitchen, but it doesn't work in International Arrivals, or at the Southern/Northern Border. Congress created this mess, maybe they can untangle the twisted strands of jurisdiction, management egos, etc., and actually help protect our country.
