My community this Memorial Day didn't even fly the American Flag, I am a Vietnam Veteran and along with a P.O.W from the Battle of the Bulge went to our flag pole for our Community and flew my American flag and read LEST WE FORGET. First at half mast and at noon raised it to full Mast and at sun down my wife and I returned and brought the Flag Down and I folded it properly as it should be.
We didn't have the American Flag the one flying was retired a week earlier because of its condition, however the attempt was made to our HOA Board as to where was the flag and when would they purchase and fly a new one because of Memorial Day was coming up , well as I have stated above they never had one for Memorial Day I call it Blasfemy by my HOA Board. Then the Board sent me a letter stating I was Unpatriotic for attempting to embarras the community and the Blasfemy statement which I siad they had all committed. I want to contact a military lawyer and sue them for Libel and Slander - I am PATRIOTIC period.

In israel the memorial day is official and stores and other leisure businesses are closed. Ceremonies are made all over the land. this is how it should be.

I wholeheartedly agree that Memorial Day should be and remain as May 30. My father, 9 uncles all served in World War 2. My brother, several cousins and friends served in the Vietnam War, Korean conflict and other missions. That is a special day to set aside as remembrance for our soldiers and the sacrifices they made for our protection and our freedom. Let's get it done.

IT'S A SHAME THAT A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE DOESN'T KNOW HOW MANY STATES WE HAVE OR THAT THE MEMORIAL DAY OBSERVANCE IS NOT INDEPENDENCE DAY. TODAY CANDIDATE OBAMA TOLD A GROUP OF AMERICANS OF CUBAN LINEAGE HE WAS GLAD TO CELEBRATE THE INDEPENDENCE DAY HOLIDAY WITH THEM. HIS LACK-A-DAISICAL ATTITUDE IN SAYTING HE HAD VISITED 57 STATES AND HAD ONE MORE TO GO TO AND TODAY CONFUSING MEMORIAL DAY WHEN WE REMEMBER THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO DIED IN WARS TO PRESERVE OUR INDEPENDENCE WHICH WE DON'T CELEBRATE UNTIL jULY 4TH IS UNFORGIVEABLE IN SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BE OUR PRESIDENT AND COMMANDER IN CHIEF.

Help me understand how making the date change would cause more people to care. I agree that the contributions of our soldiers isn't given enough weight in our society, but is this the way to fix the problem?
Really, if we take our freedom for granted now, why would making the date change make any difference in our collective hearts & minds?

I will be bringing this information to the audiences attention at our Memorial Day service on Sunday. I am hoping we will be able to bring this matter to our senators attention to support senator Anouye and once again observe May 30th .

Thank you for your information on Memorial Day. I was in search of some history and meaning of the beginning of the day of observance.
