Obama is 1-3, Carter is 4&5, followed by Nixon, LBJ, Harding, Jackson and Buchanan. Those are the 10 worst (some are so bad they need more than one spot).

To me Jimmy carter will always be known as a great humatarium. Maybe was the best bur certainly not the worst. Regan got the credit for getting hostages released but it was Carter who did the ground work resulting in their reaase the day after leaving office. How quick we are to condem? He inherited a economy in trouble. Look at the good work. Many times with his own money then people he haas helped aand continues to this day. Name one president who gave so much back to society.

None of my picks made your list, beginning with Barrack Obama, followed by Jimmy Carter, Lyndon Johnson, and Woodrow Wilson, yet all four did tremendous damage to America. Obama has destroyed our health care system, amassed a 14 trillion dollar deficit, driven up unemployment with an unpredictable tax policy, supports an incompetent justice department, refuses to enforce our federal laws, drives up oil prices by shutting down production, and fosters a weak foreign policy while groveling, scraping and apologizing for America. Carter gave us a muslim state in the middle east and double digit inflation, Lyndon Johnson attempted to bomb Vietnam back to the stone age, then initiated a bombing halt that left American Soldiers exposed. Woodrow Wilson's, progressive policies set the stage for the Great Depression, and his handling of the run up to WW I and later the failed League of Nations, highlight his ineptitude in foreign affairs. His failures are numerous, and we are still paying for his victories. You have one president who only had 30 days in office, and another who had less than a year, but grant a pass to the likes of Carter, Johnson Obama and Wilson? I may not be a history scholar, but neither are those who prepared this list.

Ab Licoln was the worst president. He drug the US into a war with the Confederate states resulting in the deaths of half million americans north and south. He could have left the southern states alone and let them go about there own business peacefully. The south had the right to withdrawl from the union and govern itself. Ever since Ab Lincoln, the states have had little rights to make decisions of there own without some federal interference. Thanks for leading us into big Gov honest Ab its your fault.

I think the poll results reflect a much bigger problem in the US than who the worst president is.

I mean, when the majority of people can only name Washington and Lincoln, and think of Lincoln as the 'guy who ended slavery', Washington is going to loose. After all, he cut down cherry trees, and that's totally not green.

Obviously, the George Washington votes need to be omitted, as someone botched his reputation. He was actually the greatest.

And the most recent presidents don't deserve to be tallied, in my opinion, for the mere fact that familiarity breeds contempt.

Therefore, if one extrapolates the true data, (the middle), it's clearly James Buchanon who was the real lemon.

Dale Davis of CA 10:47PM January 17, 2011

Someone indicated George Washington was the worst president and spammed the answer so it looks like he captured almost three quarters of the votes.

Most people would pick a more recent president, as they possibly have been or would have been affected by his policies.

Worst president - Jimmy Carter.
