Campaign 2008
John McCain
After a distinguished military career and 20 years in the Senate, Arizona Sen. John McCain has earned--for better or for worse--the nickname “maverick.” The Navy pilot was a prisoner of war in North Vietnam for 5 1/2 years. When he returned, he served two terms in the U.S. House of Representatives before being elected to the Senate in 1986. In the Senate he has been an advocate for campaign finance reform and has tried to decrease the number of “pork barrel” projects.
