Saddened at this news. I remember Vidal Sassoon very well from the 1960's when he worked as a stylist in his own Bond Street salon. The Bond Street salon was his first London place and those cuts you could get there were revolutionary at the time, the teased and sprayed "Beehive" do's were still very much the going style. I remember wanting one of those cutswhich I'd seen in magazines but not knowing where to get one, until one day I walked past his salon and saw the photos in the window, eureka! I was about 19 years old then when I first found the place, it became so popular that customers would sit out on the street waiting for their appointments. As I remember haircuts by Vidal cost eleven English shillings and some cents back then! - Not even $2.00! Vidal never cut my hair, I used to go to another great stylist called Christopher, but I used to watch Vidal work on his clients and he was undoubtedly brilliant. I never saw him cut anyone's hair that didn't fall perfectly into place afterwards, and of course without teasing and torturing to do so. Christopher's charges for a hair cut were a little less than Vidal's, around nine English shillings and change.
