NEW YORK (AP) — A collection of postwar and contemporary art — including a Mark Rothko painting with a pre-sale estimate of up to $45 million — is coming to a New York City auction.
The works were collected by the late philanthropist David Pincus of Philadelphia and his wife, Gerry Pincus.
The May 8-9 sale also will include important works by Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock.
The centerpiece is Rothko's 1961 "Orange, Red, Yellow." It's been on loan at the Philadelphia Museum of Art for years.
Christie's says it's the most important Rothko to come on the market since 2007. That's when it sold "White Center (Yellow, Pink and Lavender on Rose)" from the David Rockefeller collection for $72.8 million.
