WASHINGTON (AP) — The House has begun debating a historic and hotly contested global warming bill.

Democratic leaders say it will usher in an era of cleaner energy. But Republican opponents called it "the largest tax increase in American history."

Hours before the planned vote Friday, it was unclear whether House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had the votes to get the bill through, only that it would be close.

The measure for the first time would impose limits on carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas pollution from power plants, factories and refineries. While energy costs would be increased, Democrats argued the costs can be contained for consumers.

Republican opponents called it a "jobs killer" and a big energy tax on every American.

Climate change is more science fiction than fact; first let us look at the name… in the 1970’s these same “scientist” said a “New Ice Age” was coming based on the same model they would later use to declare “Global Warming” with, and now that a cooling trend has been proven the new name is “Climate Change.”

Before man existed there was climate change. How else would you explain all the ice ages and warming periods that this planet has gone through without mans help. What arrogant little insects we are to proclaim that we affect the weather now when we’ve never been able to before. Scientist are still trying to learn how to make it rain, still trying to understand the mechanics of a storm. They have come a long way in weather forecasting but they are still wrong quite often about what the weekend will hold.

Over 1300 world renowned scientist and climatologist have signed a petition wherein they stake their professional reputations on the fact that “Global warming/Climate Change” is a hoax.

I offer my own two cents to this, Al Gore, who has already gained millions from Climate Change, said that the Ice at the poles would melt and flood the world. OK, if you discover this statement is a lie will you at least doubt the rest? Here is some science you’ll like. To start get a glass of cool aid and add lots of ice as much as you like. Now place the glass on a table, use a napkin please, then go away for a while, or if you’ve nothing better to do you can watch it. When the ice melted did the glass overflow? I didn’t think so, that is because as water freezes it expands substantially, not only that it traps air inside the ice as well. Sorry Al, but you are a liar as proven with 3rd grade science.

I could power my entire block with the energy form my south roof. I sure hope they don't just turn technology the the citizens pay for to the big energy corporations.

But I'm not TOO excited about this; the Senate will mess it up as they always do, being bought and paid for by the big corporations that we bailed out.

People who don't think climate change is real are like people who still believe the earth is flat. Wait'll your relatives on the eastern seaboard are under water in more than their mortgages.

Perhaps many just don't want to believe that this little 6000 year experiment in MAN'S supremacy is hitting bottom.

Nonetheless, it's really already too late. We wasted 8 years with a president (Bush) who actually drove scientists out of this country.I don't know where the guy upstairs gets his info about Australia, They have been battling enormous wildfire for the last several years from climate change.

We reap what we sow, folks.

Apparently the citizens of this country do not know what is good for us. Only our high elected officals do or do they? They met behind doors and not one US citizen has the opportunity to approve or disapprove with a bunch of people that have forgotten that they are work for the people of this country. There is no common senses. I do not believe for one minute that our elected officals care. There are no more ethics, principles or honor. Only greed and who's buy out who for favors.
