We sit here fighing about energy, global warming, the economy and what the President is trying to do. A large portion of why the economy is what it is is because of how high the price of energy got It is probably a blessing, because the American people want cheap energy and it was convenient to buy it at the low price of the middle east oil. Has it been cheap oil? What price have we paid in lives of the cream of our society and the debt we are incurring every day the war in Iraq goes on. Most of the problems we have brought on ourselves. There is a growing shortage of energy. Fossil fuels are limited, polluting and harmful to our health and the environment, but versatile, so they should be conserved for where they are most needed. Our continent is blessed with a lot of renewable resources also and because they are renewable we should use them more. Most renewable energy sources need a back up source of energy. We need all affordable energy sources and they should be allocated to their best use. I do not believe in using food sources, grain or fish oil as they upset the cost of food and create more problems than they solve More research should be done on deep geothermal, cleaning up fossil fuels and the storage of energy. Our grid system (electrical highway) is third world and needs major overhauling. As our interstate highway system is federal, the electrical highway should be also. The cost of the stimulus bills are beyond my raal conception, but the energy and transportation problems are in big trouble and money spent on these is of the utmost importance. We need to all come together as Americans, not Democratics or Republicans and solve these real problems. The jury is still out on global warming, but conservation should be a way of life. Let us use all our own resources and conservation of them. We have plenty of resources on our own continent. We do not have to seek resources from others built on the backs of poor masses of people. .

Obama has a real fight on his hands with the GOP and special interest groups. When it comes to energy and green stimulus programs he needs to think out of the box a bit more. We need discoveries that will create new jobs. President Obama and Mr. Chu and the Energy Dept. are moving quickly to fund alternative energy projects. However most of what you see is the obvious and well known programs. We need to concentrate more on break thru technologies! Otherwise we will never really change the world! I recently discovered a company called Energetics Technologies. They have a process called SuperWave Fusion, which could be a possible breakthrough in cold fusion. I recently read that 2 independent labs have replicated this process, this is the type of new thinking we need

Amazing how Bonnie Erbe can dedicate an article to how SENSITIVE the folks of Wall St are to "messages," but Mr. Walsh can use Carol Browner as the main source for his article on environmental policy without worrying what message Czar Browner as spokesperson for US energy policy sends to the people at the EPA she administer with "a hostile work environment," and her Agency was found guilty of race, sex, and color discrimination by a jury in the 2000 case Coleman-Adebayo v Browner. The case was brought under the provisions of Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. A House Science Committee investigation of over a year into allegations of discrimination and retaliation at Browner's Agency corroborated the jury's findings. The confluence of these incriminating findings led to the 1st Civil Rights law of the 21st century, the NoFEAR Act (Notification of Federal Employees Anti-discrimination and Retaliation) that mandated study of Coleman-Adebayo v Browner for all Federal government new hires within 90 days of employment, and every 2 years for all Federal workers. Additionally, every Federal website is required to provide NoFEAR information. See for yourself on the EPA website: http://www.epa.gov/civilrights/nofearact.htm So what message does a constitutional lawyer President send to whistleblowers who might work at the EPA (or any other Federal agency) to have a Czar whose agency violated the very law that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., died for? Does it encourage transparency or stifle it? Would it make you feel like the President had YOUR back or Ms. Browner's? We are all watching in stunned amazement as the financial institutions wallow in taxpayer bailouts after decades of self-regulation. Just imagine what might have been averted had whistleblowers known that if they came forward about the financial shenanigans that were going on they wouldn't have been destroyed. Tom Daschle didn't pay roughly $100,000.00 in taxes and got eliminated from the inner circle. Has anyone calculated the tally then-Administrator Browner squandered in the Coleman-Adebayo lawsuit? Or the whitewash she commissioned on the jury and the Science committee findings to cover her behind? It mades Daschle's sum look like pimples. And he didn't hurt anyone. But guess what happened to Dr. Coleman-Adebayo after the last election, when Stephen Johnson was on his way out the door? She got fired! By a Browner era holdover who Ms. Browner would have been removed after the verdict, had she given a rat's behind about justice. So, Mr. President, you studied law at Harvard. Did you ever take the section on the 1964 Civil Rights Act? You know, the one that got you into Columbia and Harvard? The same one that paved the way for Ms. Browner too? Why have you allowed the one person with the courage to stand up to discrimination at EPA under Carol Browner be thrown under the bus Rosa Parks made her stand on? And how is that of the many qualified candidates Browner your spokesperson?

Nice to see US News acting as a propaganda arm for the DNC. There has been no global warming for 11 years. Obama is going to spend trillions and break the backs of tax payers solving problems that don't exist. You can all bet that your energy costs will go sky high. Remember the Democratic excuses about developing Alaskan and Offshore oil because it will take ten years to come on line. Well, ten years from now they will use the same excuse because they will have stood in the way for all that time. In the mean time, China will develop more than one new coal fired plant a week and they will simply run us over economically while Obama is playing with his silly and expensive windmills. This entire agenda is designed to further empower both the left and government; to reduce personal choice and increase government dependency; and to push the cause of socialism by using false ecological alarmism as an excuse.

Great article with terrific insight into the politics, policy and psychology of the new energy zeitgeist, as Walsh so accurately describes it. I wrote about this yesterday at my blog on climate change for the Foreign Policy Association - http://climatechange.foreignpolicyblogs.com/. I’ve also written about the “smart grid” and how essential it is. It’s critically important that President Obama has embraced this concept and is rolling out the money and expertise to fully operationalize it.
