Actually Bush did try to reach out to the Democrats, but they were so bitter over losing the election, they fought him tooth an nail his entire 8 years. Damn the American people and look what happened. Our country is in shambles.
Clinton's staff trashed the White House when Bush came into office. I'm betting the Republicans will show much more class when Obama does the same.
But no, thoughtful is right. We should keep fighting each other and further weaken our country while Russia and China grow in power and influence. It's much more important to rub Obama's victory in the Republicans face and tell them, "I told you so."

Duberstein, the Reagan chief of staff, calls for the new president to "reach out to the opposition."
This is what Republicans always say if they feel things are going against them--and exactly what neither Reagan nor Bush did when they squeaked by to win their first terms. They pretended they had a mandate and ignored the opposition.
And if Obama wins, I hope he will do the same. Especially since the McCain campaign went out of its way to be divisive, trivial and based on big lies. There's no reason to reach out to policies the voters have rejected.
