I think it took a lot of courage for Colin Powell to stand against his party and support Obama, and I admire him for putting his country first. He undoubtedly disappointed and alienated a lot of long time friends by making this decision, which is never easy.
He is a true patriot in my book, having put the best interests of his country ahead of partisan politics. The Republican party HAS changed, and many among us have drifted because it has become more focussed on power and righteousness than on integrity and honor. Our country is no longer a beacon of truth and hope to the world because the GOP leadership has led us into a moral snakepit with no regard for anyone who does not agree with them in every way. Since when is disagreement unpatriotic in a democracy?
Shame on all of you who do not listen to this man of great intelligence and wisdom, who has served this country more than John Mc Cain ever dreamt of!

Some of you people are ignorant. General Powell endorsement of Obama was very thoughtful. I guest some of you are fine with with discrediting a whole religion because of the act's of a few. oh I get it, you can forgive sheeted abd un sheeted racist, because they look like you, and proclaim to be Christian. Did you hear the complelling story that General Powell told about the mother at her son's tombstone. He was Muslim and he died for our country. You hicks don't mind blacks, mexicans, or any race dying for this country, then we are equal. But just to live and have the basic freedoms you don't want to allow that. Example: wildfires in CA. you see fema feeding people Omelets and getting insurance checks, Katrina in New Orleans, a disaster. And yes it had to do with color. But that's ok, because all of your hate will not stop a black man from having the top job in this country, and there is nothing you uneducated hicks can do about it, and for those of you hicks with college degrees, you are still uneducated.

I don't think Powell's endorsements will help Obama very much. It will only amount to preaching to the choir. Those who employ common sense and are able to look beneath the surface of Powell's comments about Barack and the McCain campaign will continue to mistrust him.
Obama's cool Powell and others lacking in backbone, and he's popular with rock stars and Hollywood stars. What we need are more people like the ones described in this song, to get the truth out:

Why should we bash General Powell for endorsing Senator Obama this late in the game? Colin Powell is a decorated-starred general who is also one of this country's most prestigious and well-respected black men. His endorsement carries clusters of weight, and is bound to send quite a few torpedoes into the hull of the McCain ship. If I were in the General's shoes, I too, would be embarrassed and upset over the irresponsible behavior going on in the Palin campaigns. We live in 2008, not 1958 — and General Powell is no stranger to the civil-rights movement during that time in our country's history. But we must stop living in the past, and lusting in our pursuits to restore dangerous nostalgia — the negative campaigns have run their course, and our nation is ready for more thoughtful leadership. President Obama in 2009.

During a recent TV forum aired by CNN or Al Jazirah, Gen. Powell mentioned that he is neither black nor white but an American. But here he has proved that he is still black. As the saying goes birds of same feathers flock together.
On the other hand, in my opinion he has lost his credibility with the American people, when he lied to the American people by presenting false information to the security council, about Iraq having weapons of Mass destruction, to justify going to war in Iraq. At the time he new that he was lying, but had to do it probably under preasure.
Therefore I do not think that his endorsement will have any credible impact for Obama.

the one thing not addressed in Powells endorsement of obama is that Powell felt going into Iraq was the right thing to do when the intelligence showed there were WMD's in iraq. Even under theses circumstances OBama did not agree to go to war. Under what circumstances would Obama go to war? This is an important issue and never discussed.
