McCain and Obama Scramble to Show Leadership on Economy

This was obviously a campaign stunt meant to take the spotlight off his lack of economic experience. How quickly we forget his quote on the economic principles of America being strong. This guy has proved to be reactive and not proactive on economic issues since he started public service.

The game is over for McCain and his VP candidate that they are hiding from all of us. The ball is rolling the other way and there is nothing he can do to change that. This was a last ditch effort that is making him look worse.

I know many registered republicans that have started to switch to Obama due to McCain's changing his mind on major issues. The best part about it is he is moving toward more liberal economic principles.

Game over...can we vote already

Is that what McCain will do if he faces a crisis while in the White House?

Mccain is correct to take charge of debate timing. The Dimocrats are going on vacation and perhaps he can hold their feet to the fire and get something done.

The thought of Pelosi Rangel,Reid and Obama being in charge of america is horrible. The democrtas took control of congress in 2006, and look at the mess we're in! $4 gas, financial ruin, investigating republicans only, fraud and contempt for taxpayers.

I've had it with democrats!

John "aMErica FIRST" is full of tricks and you know what. He hasn't had a good idea since he crashed his last plane, so he steals them from Obama. How sad that a former hero has to stoop this low to get peoples attention. The debate needs to go on. Maybe he'd like to talk a bit about the Keating 5? Or is that what he's trying to avoid by dodging the debate? Come on John, show some class like you said you would, PLEASE.

It's poor judgement on McCain's part to pretend to stop his campaign. It's a clear political stunt -- a diversion tactic to switch the focus from his rapid decline in the polls.

McCain is hiding and trying obvious political ploys to make up for the fact that he's in a free fall in the polls. The american people are much too smart to fall for this Mr. McCain.

How about her most recent press interview where she looked like a deer caught in the headlights? How on earth would she deal with enemies of the nation if she can't deal with the press?

McCain should just concede now.

The Democrats will sign anything that is put on the table. They are leaving on vacation Friday, and that is all that they are thinking about - and saving face.

For the uneducated, this disaster began when Bill Clinton signed the repeal of Glass-Steagall with bipartisan support of congress. They deregulated wall street and commercial banks and the rest is history. Always follow the money. Money never lies, just the people chasing it.

Our next president will continue to juggle this crisis and all the other big issues our country is facing today.

These two men have weighed in on what they expect in the bailout they'll be inheriting to implement in a few months. This is exactly what's needed of them as the Congress and Administration near the final tinkering of the main points of the bailout; and all reports seem to point to this being wrapped up soon -- without the need to pull our candidates from their duty to prove to us who's most qualified to lead us through the recent turmoils. There's no way to cutting the political campaign stuff so I'd prefer they stay out of the way of the committes and Administration as they get things done.

With early voting occuring today in many states, so many of us deserve to see the true measure of these two men and determine NOW who is best qualified to lead us through these difficult times -- without the scripted speeches and ads.

Obama wouldn't agree to town halls with McCain earlier - we should consider this. But both have agreed to these debates -- and having agreed, should keep their commitments to debate as scheduled. That is service and duty.

We deserve a president who will tirelessly guide us through the economic crisis, two wars, global tensions, environmental crisis and rebuilding infrastrure -- and call us all to the help bring America around. Walk and chew gum at the same time is an understatement.

Obama has proven that he is not fit to lead our country: He balked when asked to join McCain in Washington... in other words, he fiddled while Rome burned. And his lame excuse revealed an arrogant adolescent who has no sense of urgency. Are we going to put this guy in office? Bush was/is bad enough, but this guy will be more of the same times two. Go with McCain.

From photo ops McCain and Bush seem to be real buddies. Bush even delivered McCain a birthday cake in Airforce One -- all the way from Washington DC to Phoenix, Arizona -- during Hurricane Katrina. Yes. Bush and McCain seem very tight. Now, if McCain can convince his good buddy Bush to "come clean" before the American people about how much this "War on Terror" has been costing the US Taxpayer daily since its launch (another "has to be done immediately" because of all those Weapons of Mass Destruction) and present to the people a tabulation of all spending during these last eight years, since 9/11, We The People might be able to wrap our heads around the MANY reasons for this Mother-Of-All-Bailouts. Of course we might start remembering the warnings that ran along the line of "We can't afford this War. It will destroy the economy."

Now that Bush's term is coming quickly to an end, suddenly he expects We The People to blame it all on the banks. Maybe the Senate and Legislature will grow a pair and respond with a resounding "NO" to this bailout. Let Bush and Company and all their buddies figure out how they will get by day-to-day just like other Americans are having to do right now.

President Bush, "the Worst President in history" is able to manage two wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, deal with the invasion of Georgia by Russia, the devastation in the Texas and Louisiana by a hurricane, Korea reactivating their nuclear program, etc. McCain did not even read the three page proposal until Tuesday. He then suspends his campaign “to provide leadership”? McCain has exposed the limits of his myopic mentality. If he honestly believes that the condition of the United States of America is more important than the campaign, he should give his concession speech today.
