When the U.S. announced that we were going to drill off shore Opec dropped the price. We are now blending ethonal to gas which also affects the Arab pocket book. Truth is alternative fuel research has been going on for a long time, and we are a long way from doing away with oil. Get used to it. The most important thing is the fact that these oil producing countries have us under their thumbs. We did not learn our lesson from the oil embargo of the 70's. If they decide to cut us off what would we do? We cant fight war without petroleum. America would stop completely. We need to explore our own resources while scientist try to come up with an affective alternative. Its just common sense. I guarantee you if they cut us off and America would be in the dark nobody would be concerned about the environment.

Basic economics, huh? How about basic environmental issues. We will only back pedal if we move forward with this. What will you do when there are oil spills again? When there are more explosions on the rigs? When our oceans become more polluted than they already are and the poor American Public can't go out to those fancy seafood restaurants anymore? Oh that's right... at least we'll be paying less for gas... at least until we run out of oil and natural gases, b/c we clearly do not have enough to sustain the American way of living. I don't agree that this type of environmental sacrifice is worth the limited time of cheaper gas. If we're gonna do it right, we need to think this through and not rush to quick fixes such as this. C'mon guys, don't you want to do something right for our planet..at least once in your life be able to say you contributed to saving it, not destroying it.

I don't understand why Obama would not want to drill from the US's grounds. It would save on importing and exprorting....and in general, the exchage of goods and services. Basic Economics!!!

There was lots of oil resources available over seas and the bunkers were set to flames and WASTED just to prove a point of power.

If Obama wants to make a postive change for his Country he should flip the switch and do good for the people and what is right.

All politicians have been acused of flip flopping including McCain and Obama this is no surprise. But dont simple get angree at Obama because he is willing to compromise by alowing off shore drilling. Energy resources are very inportant for every country and economy so i dont see the problem with off shore drilling even though i am from a very liberal environmentaly friendly area, Santa Cruz. Obama is my preference and a little compromise wont hurt. Politicians must try and appeal to everyones political stance and that why Politics is the Art of Compromise.
