This should be good for a few yuks. The GOP going after a Dem over substance. Substance isn't the GOP's strong suit.

I thought it was widely regarded that the Republican party was the party of government and corporate intrusion on our daily lives and personal liberties. They wish to tell us who we can and cannot marry, what medical procedures we and our doctors can and cannot choose for ourselves, and they want be able to spy on us in disregard to the liberties guaranteed by the Constitution.
Trans-fat is a poison that is artificially produced in a laboratory, why should it not be banned now that it is proven to be deadly? I know that its use as a preservative enhances corporate profits but shouldn't that be of less concern than public health and safety? Its hard to exercise personal responsibility when this poison is present in virtually every menu item usually without any way for a consumer to choose to avoid it. I think Americans are more in need of corporate responsibility and government accountability.

For "Fox is Biased" - yes, I went to college, in fact two degrees from two of the finest universities. Only an idiot quips with "you must be an idiot". "Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress.. But I repeat myself." ~ Mark Twain
Recoginizing the difference in two political parties, that one wishes more government control of your life and uses splintter issues to make you think different, shows an ability to cut through the static. And while the Republic party is by no means perfect (no politican or party is), it is more into the belief of individual freedoms (and individual responsibility). Take CA for example, that State wishes to tell you whether you are allowed to eat transfat or not, or even be allowed to go to a fast food restaurant by banning new construction because it is not good for you. A largerly democrat population that is being herded around like lemmings.
As for the other person's comment on Roe v Wade (the freedom of choice versus government control). There are many Republicans that do believe a woman has the right to choose. I am a Republican (obviously), Catholic and do not believe that abortion should be used as a means of birth control - but I do believe in birth control. Also, unlike my Church, I have not come to the conclusion that it is murder and so I believe that others have the right to choose. Our government has decided that some abortions (partial birth) do constitue murder and therefore an abortion is not allowed.
Do understand that abortion (pro or con) is based upon whether a person believes it to be murder. Sort of like the honor killings of a daughter (the tribal cultures - not the Quran), those muslims that support it, or harbor the guilty do not consider it to be murder - although I certainly believe it to be murder. And that is happening in this country too. Obama's father, being Muslim, might support it. This is part of Obama's recent heritage regardless of what church he calls home today and must be examined. His choice of church wasn't too good, was it? A hate filled church that spewed of government conspiracies, obsurdities, racism and the list goes on.
Now if you think I am racist, understand I would vote for Powell or Rice.

Obama is a political juggler, a pipepiper and a trickster par excellence! Only fools believe in him, like Kate of Va, there is no fool like an old fool. Siam of Va could not distinguish a wise old man from a young trickster.

Has cataracts because he seemingly cannot read. He certainly cannot think. Bad combination.

"With democrats controlling the incompetent congress and the bias media on his side, the checks and balances system fails with Obama as president."
The reason congress is so dismally unpopular is that they've failed to check or override President Bush. After the election there'll be a popular new Democratic president to set the agenda, and a lot fewer Republicans in the Senate to filibuster. You'll see approval ratings rise.
Aleksof MN12:35AM July 26, 2008
Bush's job approval rating is disastrous at 28%! But worse is the media, in which only 24% Americans believe to be unbias in election coverage. The worst is the incompetent congress, at 17% job approval rating. Out of the inept congress are two candidates running for presidency, leaving voters to chose who will do less damage to America.
With democrats controlling the incompetent congress and the bias media on his side, the checks and balances system fails with Obama as president. The inexperienced but annointed one may turn out to be the reckless one. The year the ocean receeded may well be the year the dragon unleashed.

I'm already a proud American, but Obama just put an exclaimation point on the end of it! I'm so proud of him and that he belongs to this country. He is one of us, an American and he represented us so well. He is very presidential and I can see him actually being president. I hope everything works to his favor and that people vote for him in November, I will.
McCain just makes lots of noise and is grumpy all the time. He didn't talk about the economy all he talked about was the "surge" and how he was right and Obama was wrong and how Obama wants to lose and is somehow a traitor. He claimed Obama just wants to win, well, so does McCain, or he wouldn't be out there everyday riding a bus at the age of 71. He wouldn't be on stage talking about a U.S. Senator wanting to lose a war. Give me a break. And all this talk about retreating and surrendering, well, it's not that kind of war. No one's surrendering or retreating, we just know that we are in fact Americans and not Iraqis, therefore we don't belong there. Common sense will tell you that if you put 30 police officers in a high crime area, it will decline or drop drastically, but can the 30 police officers just remain there forever? No. At some point, we must come to reality.
The economy is my biggest issue and hands down Obama's best on that. He's got the whole healthcare deal, he's not going to tamper with socical security, he's better on taxes for poor and middle class people. If you're poor or middle class, Obama's your man. If you're rich, well, you might vote McCain.
The GOP wants to lay claim that they're party is the only one concerned with Americans and America. They are the only ones with religion. They are the only ones who can protect the country, etc. That's simply not true. They have nice spin going convincing people of these myths, but the reality is, they are just like the rest of us, but mostly just want things for wealthy, well to do, rich people. If you're poor or middle class, you might fall through the cracks. Look at things now...bank failures, foreclosures, high gas prices, etc. I'll vote change and if that doesn't work, well, I'll change again when the time presents itself, but the definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. McCain is the same as Bush, he loves his policies, why would I want that again? How's that working for us now? How many times do we have to get our heads bumped? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
Vegasof NV11:35PM July 25, 2008
All McCain did in last one week is to make noise and attack Obama. I can't imagine the old man can't even give his own ideas. He suggested that Obama should go abroad and when the trip become a success he started complainning.
Its times for him to wake up and give his own ideas on various issues instead of making noise and attacking Obama without giving a meaningful solution to American problems.
Tayoof NY10:26PM July 25, 2008
Richard - you said "The choice is government control (Obama and Democrats) versus Freedom to choose." - If the Republicans are so into "freedom of choice", why is every woman in this country terrified that the GOP will try to overturn Roe vs. Wade? Seems like "Freedom of Choice" should apply to all!!
