Social Security benefits, the very thing he wants to do away with for others. Friggin' hypocrite.

@Mary Polleys: Saving medicare? WHUT? What planet are you from? Ryan is not trying to save Medicare, he's trying to abolish it, and give seniors a voucher that would in the end cost them an extra $6k per year for Medicare=type care. Have you any idea how many seniors live on ONLY SS? How are they supposed to pay that? You're really out of touch with reality or just cold hearted, not sure which. Typical republican.

Rep. Ryan said today at a town hall meeting that rather than rely on Pell Grants, those in need should work 3 jobs if they need to in order to go to college. He's in favor of cutting Pell grants while giving additional tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires. I think it's great that Ryan was able to use his father's SS benefits to attend college. In fact, I can't think of a better use of them for a child who loses a parent. However, I do have a real problem when that same person who benefits from the government wants others to do without so the rich get richer. Maybe Ryan shouldn't have been talking about how he worked 3 jobs himself to get through college as this article clearly does NOT say that. When he gets sent back to WI in 2012, he'll have plenty of wealthy friends to help him get a job.

What amazing comments---bitterness about a family business begun in the 1880's. I, too, worked in a family business founded by my grandfather in 1888. Many challenges, long, hard work, excellent place to learn thrift and appreciation for customers/clients/citizens, to understand how jobs are created. And bitterness about the right of all minors to collect some money from the SS payments that his father PAID but never collected---and he SAVED it for college. Honestly, what people find to criticize! And, far from taking entitlements away, he courageously is working to SAVE Medicare while others whistle in the dark as if all is fine. Wake up, people!

Why would anyone expect anything different from Paul Ryan than the legislation he is pushing. After all, he was born into a family which had made their fortune off the back of the Federal Govt. and he had never HAD to work to pay his way through college or help take care of his family. It all came from his being lucky enough to be born into a family which has had the financial resources to do what they chose to do since his great-grandfather founded the company construction business. Everyone should be so blessed. And, even though this family has always taken advantage of government handouts, Paul wants to be sure that no future generations will have that chance. What a guy. He is just another George W. Bush with just a little less money than the Bush bunch.

Toni, if you actually knew anything about his proposed plan, you would know that his proposal would allow for a plan almost exact to the plan that they receive in congress. If people would stop listening to the garbage spewed from the main stream media and actually listen to him explain the plan, which I know would be difficult for the feeble-minded to understand, something may actually be learned. Medicare will be bankrupt in less than 10 years, so his plan offers a lot more than the zero that will be available to us down the road.

Paul Ryan is not worried about his medicare, because he has great insurance coverage being part of Congress. He also has a great pension plan. He is attempting to strike the middle class by cutting medicare, but that's because he will enjoy a much lucrative retirement package than the middle class will ever endure. He reaped off the benefits from his father's social security whom died of a myocardial infarction. Lets see if he continues to sing his song in 10 -15 years. Mr. Ryan lets say hypothetically--- What would you do if at the age of 60 suffer a debilitating heart attack? "Oh yeah," I forgot you don't have to worry, because you don't rely on medicaid or medicare. You are part of Congress- - - You have forgotten where you came from. Maybe you never belonged to this group. I can't wait wait to see when you will start in on social security!

Ryan Central Incorporated is a multi state, multi-million dollar construction company. It owes its' very existance to our tax dollars. It grew out of road building(taxes). It regularly wins huge government contracts.(taxes). Before being incorporated in Florida of all places, it was purely family owned and operated. That is one family's wealth directly attributed to tax money and earmarks. Paul Ryan's narrative of using his dead father's social securlty survivors money to pay for college, at first glance seems noble, until the facts are weighed into it. He attended the exclusive and expensive Miami college in Ohio This school is a bastion of rich white conservatives and receipitant of John Birch Society largess. He spent most of his time as a ski bum until his family created a "job" for him in the company and later bought(political contributions) him one in the republicon party.Government, taxes, schools and roads are all fine things. Ryan is just another spoiled brat shilling for corporate America on our dime.

How people turn arrogent when prosperity smile on them. He has had his challanges in life like everyone and had to innovate to suceed. He got lucky and has become somebody. There are folks like him with better education and equal life challanges and unfortunately still nobody. He should examine his life and be more kind to the have nots. Didnt he used the Social Security funds for college to get him to where he is today......you dont have to be arrogent to be successful

Paul Ryan's plan surely is a path to prosperity. If all you do is include the rich and corporation's.For the elderly the poor and middle class it is apath to disparity. His plan put's more money into the hand's of the wealthiest people. How rich do these people need to be.We have had 8 year's of tax break's and tax loopholes. What has the trickle down theory gotten middle America?Lost pension's, lost job's, lost home's and in many case's lost live's because of lost insurance. How courageous of Mr.Ryan to bow to tea party pressure to destroy medicaid and medicare. He hasn't started on social security yet but believe it,he will.If the republican's take the senate and white house in 2012.There's only two word's to say.SOYLENT GREEN!
